Pearl Street Park Monument

Pearl Street Park was once a bustling hub of Brooklyn, the largest Black neighborhood in Charlotte, The late 1960s was the beginning of an end for Brooklyn as businesses, churches, homes, and families were displaced, resulting in the near-complete destruction of the area. Mecklenburg County invested $4.75 million in the reconfiguration of Pearl Street Park making it what it is today. Officially rededicated in December 2021, the 11 acre park stands as a testament to resilience, community spirit, and the restoration of historical and ecological significance.

Fountain on Little Sugar Creek Greenway

The trail leads directly to a grand fountain encircled by a patio with shaded cafe tables overlooking the creek. You can continue on the greenway by biking straight around the fountain on the patio, or take a short spur down to scenic seating on the water's edge.

The Little Sugar Creek Greenway rises up above the water on an elegant wooden boardwalk. From this bend you get a gorgeous view of the sparkling creek water from above.

Midtown Park

Highlight • Structure

Midtown park is a one acre park with an open, green lawn and several sculptures. The most famous of these is the "Braille Music Box" by Po Shu Wang and Louise Bertelsen. This seven foot in diameter metal sphere has a mechanism that translates Braille letters into musical notes. Sight-impaired visitors can move the music box inside the sculpture to hear unique music.
