In 1453 a fire severely damaged the castle and the complex lost its importance when the moated castle in Detmold was expanded into the residence of the Lippe counts from 1528. After that the castle was used as a quarry. The ruins can only be visited on pre-booked tours.

My last stage of the Hermannshöhenweg was quite hilly and included a lot of elevation gain. Yet, I still saw many beautiful things and had some really cool downhill sections. For me personally, it was the best stage. The Hermann Monument and the Externsteine alone are worth a visit.

A "small" round from Oerlinghausen to the Externsteinen. On the way I said hello to Hermann and Falkenburg.
The tour itself was nothing special - 90% gravel forest roads.
For me it was only about kilometers and above all (because this year far too few) meters in altitude.
