Weilburg Ship Tunnel and Lock

Highlight • Structure

The only still passable ship tunnel in Germany with a length of almost 200 meters passes under the old town of Weilburg. Opened in 1847, it soon lost its economic importance for shipping. As I discovered a few years ago, going in a canoe is a real experience.

View of Weilburg on the River Lahn

Highlight • Viewpoint

Weilburg is generally always worth a visit. The Lahn surrounds the old town and the castle is another highlight.

Kirschhofen Double Weir

When the water is low, this rapids are often used for a stopover: for refreshment or just to watch the hustle and bustle on the, here, wide Lahn.

Weilburg Ship Tunnel

Highlight • Structure

The Weilburg Shipping Tunnel is the oldest and longest navigable ship tunnel in Germany. 1] It passes under a length of 195 meters the Mühlberg, on which the city Weilburg is located, from north to south, thus avoiding a two-kilometer-long arch of the Lahn with two weirs. The tunnel was built between 1844 and 1847 and today forms, together with the parallel road and rail tunnels, the so-called Weilburg tunnel ensemble.

Before breakfast and in the cool of the morning just a little bit along the Lahn.

Quick times from Löhnberg down the Lahn to Aumenau and back.
Halfway I noticed that I hadn't even started the tour out of sheer anticipation 😋

I have to drive more often, in the end the air was out and my ass hurts 🤣

Happy Tuesday 🙋🏻‍♂️

The first 13 pictures are not from the recorded tour, it was a small trail at the RV parking spot. The section of the Lahn cycle path is very beautiful.

If you are in the company because of a machine failure. You can at least take some time off when you're out and about in a sporty way. Today finally along the Lahn from Weilburg actually only to amenau. But I just extended it to villmar because it was so beautiful today and saw my very first ermine. Unfortunately I …
