Historic Sluice at Greetsiel

Highlight • Monument

Greetsiel is a beautiful, small town and part of the municipality of Krummhörn. There are a lot of older houses. The harbor with its shrimp cutters is particularly worth seeing. In the season, however, Greetsiel is very busy.

July 14, 2024,Runde von Greetsiel über Hauen - Pilsumer Leuchtturm – Deichwanderweg - Hafen von Greetsiel
The trip to the North Sea began in style with rain just as we were about to set off. But luckily it didn't last long and we were able to start the tour with anticipation. First through cozy Greetsiel and then towards the sea. Mövenpick were our constant companions, a leisurely tour with fresh sea air.

Today we stopped in Greetsiel on the way to Emden to see the beautiful harbor. Spontaneously I was able to convince my loved one to hike with me to the Pilsum lighthouse. On the way I logged some geocaches. After the obligatory photos we went back to the harbor and ate a pizza. Then it was on to Emden.

Hike on February 7th, 2022

Actually I wanted to cycle from Cuxhaven to Bremerhaven last Monday to be able to tick off the last stretch of the Weser Cycle Path that I'm still missing. In view of the rather stiff breeze from western directions (I would have had the wind from diagonally behind, but alas, it turns a little further …

We start in the idyllic fishing village "Greetsiel" over the dike of the Leyhörner Sieltief, up to the Pilsum lighthouse (Otto lighthouse). 😆🍀
From here you have a wonderful view up to the Leyhörn lock!💨🍀

On the way back, we follow the path through the bird sanctuary - Natura 2000 -
back to Greetsiel! 💨☀️🥾🫶🏼

The north can also really have summer. That's a bit unusual, because there's no stiff breeze today. A small parking lot below the bathing lake is the start and finish. And it's so hidden that it's also free.
I can see the highlight of this region from afar. Red and yellow in thick stripes, it's getting closer and closer. The …

The half-day tour starting in Greetsiel was a dream from an ornithological point of view. 🥰
In the reeds and in the shallow waters of the Leyhörn nature reserve there were lots of my feathered friends to be discovered, including avocets and spoonbills.
The 646 hectare area has been a nature reserve since 1994 and is part of the 5766 …

Made a nice hike between two big rain showers

Additional tip: The starting parking lot is free—not a given in Greetsiel. There are about 10-15 parking spaces available (from memory).
