Well suited as a starting point for hiking / biking tours. In summer you can cool your feet in the Kneipp pool 😄
The Hochwaldhüttte is also not too far away, but note the opening times here!

Geißkopf Summit and Bike Park

Highlight • MTB Park

A detour is always worth a beautiful view 😉 (tower)
The four seasons region - Geißkopf.

In summer - bike park, archery park, hiking and rest.

In winter - popular ski area with snow-making equipment - floodlit skiing - toboggan run - snow and fun park - Geisslein park.

The catering establishments take care of the physical well-being with typical Bavarian snacks, delicacies and the tasty beer.

A hike around the 1,097 m high Geißkopf near Bischofsmais not only offers many unforgettable nature experiences. The ruins of the abandoned forest village of Oberbreitenau also tell of the hard life of mountain farmers in the Bavarian Forest. Well-marked hiking and forest trails lead to its summit. Those who prefer to be more comfortable can also use the chairlift.

Oberbreitenau Raised Bog

Highlight • Natural Monument

As early as 1585, a Degenberg castle lord had this plateau cleared and settled.

Of the “12 properties with 80 people and 370 cattle” that were located here in 1832, half were still there in 1928.
The people on the remote Oberbreitenau always had to contend with harsh weather and barren soil. Only oats, potatoes and beets thrived here and the crops were often snowed in.

In the 1920s, the Bavarian state bought the abandoned properties, which had now fallen into disrepair.

The state forestry administration has now freed up the areas planted with spruce trees and filled the ditches so that the original condition and spaciousness of the open area can be restored. A gravel path makes it easier to visit Oberbreitenau, and in the adjacent magical forest you will be amazed by animal figures carved with a chainsaw.

Oberbreitenau is also interesting for botanists and geologists. The raised moor area created by springs is a botanical excursion area. At the top of the rare plants is the Charlemagne Scepter. The pale yellow foxglove, orchid and arnica are also strictly protected. Typical raised moor plants include blackberry and cranberry, cotton grass, fat grass and sundew.

Before we go to the home trail TROPHY on Jackl tomorrow, let's see if something like that with my old 26 incher is even remotely possible.
Think of trying it's worth it tomorrow 🙂

After doing some gardening this morning, I spontaneously decided to go on a tour in the afternoon. From Deggendorf I simply set off towards Geisskopf. In the end, I had three stream crossings planned (I decided not to do the fourth crossing today - the ford felt half a meter deep), the Geißkopf and a visit to the "Nest" with …

Nice round from Deggendorf with a detour to the bike park. I got a bit frayed on the descent from Dreitanna. Gives a nicer line in the middle part
