Wernigerode Old Town

Beautiful historic old town with a large number of half-timbered houses that have been lovingly restored. The many small shops and stores invite you to linger and shop.

Wohltäterbrunnen Wernigerode

Highlight • Monument

This very beautiful historic fountain is located on the market square directly in front of the Wernigerode town hall. A very popular photo motif and beautifully decorated in winter and nicely integrated into the Christmas market.

View of Wernigerode Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

The castle can be seen from a great distance because it is on the top. It's not that easy to get to the square by bike, but it's very nice. You can buy a ticket and go inside.

From Wernigerode to Blankenburg via Benzingerode on the R1 cycle path. The forest path below Mönchmühlenteich was still closed after the storm. So I had to drive a few km on the country road. Blankenburg's old town below the castle is also worth seeing. Unfortunately, the GPS reception there failed briefly.

The monastery hiking trail from last year is not quite finished yet. The evidence of our presence is still missing: the monastery temple!
So we went back to Michaelstein. Originally we planned to go to Börnecke and with Abellio's participation, but we changed our plans and took the return journey by bike.

Where's the trout?
Tasted so delicious 😋.
Unfortunately no photo today.

Shortly to Blankenburg for lunch. Unfortunately, the R1 was not always freely navigable.

In this wonderful weather we drove to Blankenburg via the old R1 cycle path. First via the Michaelstein monastery to the Luisenstein ruins. From there via the large Blankenburg Castle, the baroque gardens to the small castle 🏰 and the tourist information. From there, after a little refreshment, we went back to Wernigerode via the new R1. 👍
