Rollefbach Viaduct

Highlight • Bridge

The 128 meter long and 24 meter high viaduct was not destroyed during World War II and is therefore preserved to this day - it offers a great view of the valley.

Iter Valley Viaduct

Highlight • Bridge

The listed viaduct is 130 meters long and 22 meters high. The last two arches of the bridge were blown up by the Wehrmacht during World War II and rebuilt after the war. Due to the Vennbahnweg there is a lot of cycling here - two bays on both sides of the bridge are suitable for a short photo break and the fantastic view of the Iterbachtal.

Vennbahn Cycle Path at Raeren Station

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The Vennbahnradweg is a cross-border long-distance cycling route between Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg, which runs along the route of Prussia's former Vennbahn over approximately 130 km from Aachen through the Hohes Venn-Eifel Nature Park and the Ardennes to Troisvierges. It is part of the RAVeL network (French: Réseau Autonome de Voie Lentes), which is a trail network for walkers, riders and cyclists in the Belgian Wallonie and was launched in October 1995. In German-speaking countries, the hiking and cycling path was named Vennbahn and is classified in its total length as a premium cycle path.
The cycling and walking path is adopted by numerous cyclists, skaters and hikers and the neighboring communities promise to increase the local tourism in the future. This is supported by the fact that already some former station buildings have been converted into service areas, hotels and boarding houses are set up for day trippers and local public transport offers so-called bicycle buses as shuttle service. In the course of 2013, between Roetgen and Kalterherberg, seven steel houses were built in the form of a "lost wagon" intended for weather protection or a resting place.

Vennbahn Near Lammersdorf

Highlight • Cycleway

The Vennbahn is a former railway, largely converted into a cycle path since 2006, between Luxembourg and Germany. In between, the Vennbahn runs through the Eastern Cantons, which were assigned to Belgium by the Treaty of Versailles, partly over a narrow Belgian corridor through Germany.

Vennbahn Cycle Path: Raeren–Schmithof

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The Vennbahnweg is a cross-border long-distance cycle route between Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg of approx. 130km.
It is the longest cross-border, contiguous cycle and hiking trail in Europe on disused railway lines.
The signage is excellent.
It goes from Aachen in Germany to Troisvierges in Luxembourg. You drive through the Eifel and foothills of the Belgian Ardennes, mostly with a slight incline, mostly a very good route quality and rare interruptions.
You get to see a lot and can enjoy a lot of nature.
I already drove the Vennbahnweg back and forth, it was really worth it this multi-day tour to companies.
At the weekend, more traffic is expected, especially in the Aachen area, consideration is then required.

The viaduct is a relic of the former railway line from Aachen to Troisvierges in Luxembourg. Today, the Vennbahnweg route is a long-distance cycle path.

June 21, 2025,(18) von Lammersdorf nach Aachen
Access to the Vennbahn cycle path was very easy.

After that, it was basically all downhill; look at the speed – we had simply chosen the right direction :-).

Near Raeren, like last year, there was a festival centered around the railway (see photo).

There's an association there that wants to reopen the railway line.

...the Vennbahn cycle path is simply brilliant. On Belgian territory through the Eifel without having to climb the ladder to heaven. On the way back I liked the descent from Lammersdorf. 👍👍👍

Beautiful tour of Kornelimünster via Raeren to behind Roetgen with two supply - stops. Coffee fairy and station vision.
Average 19.5 km/h without breaks

Today, because we left late, we only rode the Vennradweg from Roetgen to Aachen Brand and back. Since you shouldn't exert yourself after a vaccination, I really used my e-bike today. 😄🤣

A very nice round, along the Vennbahn with obligatory stops at the Bhnhof Raeren, also in the old station Roetgen very nice sitting, great round, just too much going on between Aachen and Kornelimünster

The cycle path from Monschau-Mützenich to Aachen is very well developed. It is almost entirely downhill and is therefore also ideal for less sporty cyclists. The route is very good and you have almost nothing to do with the traffic in Aachen. It leads directly past the Aachen-Rote Erde train station.

The weather lured me out of the booth again and I took advantage of the nice weather for a mountain bike tour. This time I wanted to drive to the gate of the Eifel in Roetgen.
It was fresh, I had dressed accordingly.
I first ride on the Vennbahn to Aachen-Brand, on to Walheim via Schmithof and then across the …

Our bike tour starts in Aachen. At the Rothe train station we first looked for the entrance to the Vennbahn cycle path. After that everything went well. We cycled from Aachen to Monschau Mützenich. A great tour and highly recommended, it's fun. The next tour starts tomorrow.
