View of the Fort of Exilles

Highlight • Castle

The Exilles Fort is one of the oldest forts in the Susa valley. Historians hypothesize that it dates back to the year one thousand. Today the fort is open to the public and can be visited.

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Panoramic point where the last descent towards Sestrire della Stada dell'Assietta begins, or where, as in my case, the climb ends to reach altitude and begin the ups and downs between 2300-2500 meters up to the Assietta hill.

Rather challenging gravel, lots of climbing, the first part in the woods on asphalt then dirt and dust, ups and downs at altitudes always above 2000 meters with meadows and wide views. Return to Susa on the busy main road.

To get to the beginning of the route, we take the train in Bussoleno, which costs about €7 with the bike.
The climb from Oulx to just before the Col de Basset is very, very hard, mostly paved but with very little traffic and then by track.

Made based on input from an article by Pinar Pinzuti on bike Italia.it... dirt roads ruined by off-road vehicles and motorbikes.. 700x40 tyres.. but so-so descents.. still nice
