The section from Vernaison to Givors is MTB: first a 20cm wide single trail, dirt, with large stones as "gates" every now and then, later from Ternay onwards dirt and mud holes and a slope (push downhill!). It's best not to ride this section at all!

Leaving Lion wasn't easy. The busy cycle path turned into a horrible gravel road. Near Ternay, the track took me onto a cycle path that was nothing but grass. On this stretch, I met a desperate Frenchman who was about to turn around. There were sections where we pushed our bikes downhill. From Vienne, the path was beautiful again. Vineyards …

After a good night's sleep and a meager breakfast (dry crackers with some jam) we left around 10 am. The temperature was already 23°C, so that promised for the rest of the day. The first kilometers went downhill with some lovely gravel strips. In the direction of Givors, the last climb of the day was after about 15 kilometers. Delicious!
