Kellersee — Lakeside view at Sielbeck

Highlight • Viewpoint

Kellersee borders Malente to the east. It has a total area of approximately 50.6 hectares and a maximum depth of approximately 27 meters. A 14.6 km hiking trail surrounds the lake, including several highlights along the way. These include, for example, the "WunderWeltWasser" nature trail for all ages and the Rothensande estate, the original setting for the Immenhof films. Kellersee can be explored by both excursion boats and sailboats. Canoe trips from Eutin-Fissau are also possible, and there is also a swimming area here. Other swimming areas can be found in Wöbbensredder or at Hamburger Strand in Sielbeck. The swimming areas in Sielbeck and Fissau are unguarded. Anglers also have plenty of opportunities here, as the lake has a good population of zander, pike, and sea bass. Numerous waterfowl can also be observed here.

This lake also offers great opportunities for anglers. You can catch eels, perch, bream, pike, tench, zander, carp, and others 🐟

Hamburger Beach (Kellersee)

Highlight • Beach

The bathing area with a sandy beach on Lake Kellersee between Sielbeck and Fissau in Eutin.

The Hamburger Strand bathing area is the perfect place to cool off, far from the hustle and bustle of Lake Kellersee. The natural bathing beach is only accessible via the hiking and cycling path between the Eutin districts of Fissau and Sielbeck, making it an ideal place for a break during a hike or bike ride.

Kellersee Lakeside Trails

Highlight • Trail

The Kellersee is the second largest lake in the Holstein Lake District and is beautifully embedded in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park. The shore paths around the lake are popular with cyclists and hikers, and several official hiking and cycling routes pass by here. It can get crowded, especially at weekends.

Schwentine Water Trail
The Schwentine River connects numerous lakes in Holstein Switzerland over a distance of 62 kilometers.

At 62 kilometers, the Schwentine is one of the longest rivers in Schleswig-Holstein and is a popular water trail for canoeists and paddlers. It rises at the foot of the Bungsberg mountain near Schönwalde/Ostholstein and flows into the Baltic Sea near Kiel. Known as the "Holy River" by the Slavs, it was formed from the meltwater of the last Ice Age. On its way through Holstein Switzerland, it connects 16 natural lakes and one reservoir. The most famous lakes include the Großer Eutiner See, Kellersee, Dieksee, Behler See, Großer & Kleiner Plöner See, and Lanker See.

Numerous native animal species feel at home along the rivers and lakes. Among the rarest specimens are the kingfisher, bittern, otter, and white-tailed eagle. But amphibians such as fire-bellied toads and moor frogs also frolic in the wet banks of the Schwentine.

View of Lake Dieksee

Highlight • Viewpoint

Dieksee nestles to the west of Malente and is a good starting point for excursions in the region.

The Dieksee is located west of Malente, is about 386 hectares in size and is crossed from east to west by the Schwentine, which also feeds it. In addition to Malente, the towns of Timmdorf and Niederkleveez are also located on the lake. The Dieksee promenade winds along the shore in Malente, inviting holidaymakers to take leisurely strolls. Numerous hotels and health clinics line up here and offer a fantastic view of the water and the Dieksee islands of Langenwarder and Gremswarder. Active holidaymakers also get their money's worth at Dieksee, as there are a variety of sporting activities in, on and by the water.

From Fegetasche (Plön) past Edebergsee, Höftsee, Behler See, around Dieksee, Keller See and Uklei See back to Fegetasche.
That was my tour #5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ with Komoot.
I have often cycled this tour and similar tours and also hiked in sections. It's just a very beautiful landscape that has its own character in every season 🌞🥰🌞

Today we immersed ourselves in a land of lakes. The very first glimpse of Kellersee impressed me. The wooden sculpture by the Danish artist Traute Ohlenbusch demonstrates the synergy and benefits of socialization in the formation of bird flight, in the form of departure, movement, and change. The repetition of the motif represents moments of togetherness and closeness. 🥰

Today we started from Eutin towards Kellersee. We drove this towards the east, always along the shore to Malente.
We continued towards Timmdorf above the Dieksee. Nice place to rest at the bridge at the flow to the Schwentine.
Back towards Malente then again directly on the shore of the lake.
At the Kellersee we met "Gut Immenhof" 😊 - …
