The hydropower plant from 1905 draws its water from the Urft Dam and was once the largest storage hydropower plant in Europe. The power plant building is now a listed building and can be viewed on guided tours.

A round trip with Heimbach was never on my to-do list until yesterday evening. Who knows what possessed me to swap it for a planned Ahr round trip or to create one🤔.
Anyway: There was enough to see - the fog cleared, albeit reluctantly, at some point and there were also nice paths (some of them really rustic). Stopping off …

Being so lucky with the weather is almost outrageous. I extended the actual tour via Mariawald Abbey. Unfortunately, the network was gone, so only a line appears on the map. Wonderful paths, beautiful views. I took the path from Heimbach to Eifel Blick via the trail, so you need to be sure-footed.

It's always nice around Heimbach, even in cloudy weather. Preparations for the Charles Dickens Christmas market were underway at the castle, which is definitely worth seeing.

On the penultimate day of our Eifel vacation, we made a detour to the northern part of the Rursee. We went to the beautiful town of Heimbach with the following special eye-catchers: Hengebach Castle, Mariawald Abbey, Art Nouveau power station, Eifel Gate, Heimbach reservoir. And of course, there is a lot of Eifel National Park all around.
