Hexenkopf

Highlight • Viewpoint

Very quaint paths until then, Edersee-typical steep slope stop. :-) From the square itself you then have a good view. The same applies to the Hexenplatz, but it is still worth hiking through both places. Sometimes the way is the goal...

In terms of legend, the Teufelsgraben and Hexenkopf belong together and are connected by a rustic forest path. You can get to the Teufelsgraben via a very small path and a wooden walkway.

Edersee Dam

Highlight • Monument

A very impressive structure and a highly recommended highlight.
The 400 m long and 47 m high Eder Dam was built between 1908 and 1914.

It serves to secure shipping on the Weser River in the summer, as well as to generate electricity
and as flood protection. With a capacity of up to 200 million cubic meters,
the Edersee is the third-largest reservoir in Germany and, with over 400,000 overnight stays, a popular holiday region.

Guided tours are available from June to August on Wednesdays at 4 p.m., lasting approximately 45 minutes.

Edersee Atlantis: Due to the flooding of the Eder Valley, the villages of Asel, Berich,
and Bringhausen were submerged; only at very low water levels do they still appear with their foundations.

You can still see the Asel Bridge and parts of the old cemeteries.
An old church bell was placed a little higher on the shore and still stands there today.

On May 17, 1943, a British bomb tore a huge hole in the dam. The flood killed 68 people, destroyed 213 buildings, and destroyed numerous bridges. The crops were also destroyed.

Reconstruction of the dam began that same year.

The hike begins in Hemfurth Edersee. After the first highlight, the dam, the trail immediately enters the forest. While it's a steep climb, the magnificent views at several points make up for it. The paths are very narrow in places, and there are also a few fallen trees to negotiate. Every hiker should be sure-footed on this route. The tour …

"Hiking in the wild" describes the unique jungle trail that really impressed us today.
Winding paths lead over hill and dale, and it's not uncommon for a tree trunk to be in the way. Steep slopes often lead to fantastic views.
A highly recommended trail👍. We're already looking forward to the next stage (whenever that may be😉).

Today's tour started at the Waldeck Castle hiking car park – a day ticket costs €6.
First, we visited the castle grounds before heading to the Kellerwaldsteig trail. The paths through the forest require sturdy footwear and absolute surefootedness in some places. The ups and downs were always rewarded with magnificent views of the castle, the Edersee, and the dam. …

After discovering @Nicole's beautiful hike, I knew we had to go there too 🌿🌳🪨💦🥰
Today was the day, before everything turned green and the view of the lake and castle was obscured.
🅿️ Castle parking lot for hikers: €6 day ticket, and what's great: with the ticket, you can use at least 6 other parking spaces all day long. Cool …

The outward journey was a bit difficult. It was beautiful in places, but even more strenuous since it had just rained. At the end of the path, there was a sign indicating a difficult path. The return journey was easy and beautiful, along the edge of the reservoir, ideal for cyclists.

From Waldeck we entered the national park directly on the Urwaldsteig. After several wonderful viewpoints we arrived at the Edersee dam, which was built in the imperial era at the beginning of the 20th century to supply water to the Weser and Mittelland Canal as well as to generate electricity and protect against flooding. A little refreshment, a walk around …
