Road cycling

Hard road ride. Very good fitness required. Mostly well-paved surfaces and easy to ride. The starting point of the route is accessible with public transport.

Water Fountain in the Atlas Mountains

Highlight • Rest Area

This free natural water source is rather the exception than the rule. On the other side there are plenty of small kiosk shops selling bottled water along the way. I never had more than 1L reserve while on the way.

Café Restaurant Babca

Highlight • Restaurant

This is a fantastic place to stop for lunch. The owner is very welcoming and food was delicious. The tables are all outside on a terrace overlooking the river, the perfect place to sit in the sunshine. From the road it doesn't look like much and you could easily ride right past it, but you would definitely be missing out.

Ascent to Tizi n'Tichka

Highlight • Climb

Lovely climb, very gradual and wide. A few too many tourists, so aim for late in the day.

Tizi n’Tichka Pass 2,260 m

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The High Atlas is the highest mountain in North Africa with peaks over 4000m high. The Tizi n'Tichka is one of the two major passes over the main ridge of the High Atlas. Varied and good roads in a very interesting culture.

The first cyclists in Taddart?

Highlight • Settlement

Past many chickens and few people. Judging from the curious eyes of the villagers, racing cyclists have seldom come through here.

Route des Remparts

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Good to fair asphalt (2024), mostly with a right moped/bicycle lane. Traffic usually comes in bursts (due to traffic lights), so it looks like less traffic in my pictures than it really is. Since the speeds of the cars are not that high and (almost) all road users pay a lot of attention to others (without insisting on their rights), such a main road is also very easy to drive in the city.

Marrakech Street Life

Highlight • Settlement

For a long time Morocco is no longer an insider tip among friends of 2 wheels. Before you start the ride, the check of the bike is especially recommended. Smooth asphalt is rather in short supply!
