The northern edge of the Thuringian Forest is already in sight, as a landscape with a special charm rises just south behind Arnstadt. A high mountain spur reaches up to the town, goes by the name of Alteburg and separates the Gera valley from the Jonas valley.

Today we took the weather into account and decided on this tour. It is a beautiful little loop that was pleasant to walk and had a few highlights to offer. 🤗
It was quite windy, but we were mostly sheltered from the wind. Definitely worth doing more than once 😊
