February 2, 2024,Day 8 - Island hopping
Finally no rain today but instead for the first 30km an insane head wind. I would be going downhill and if I wasn’t pedalling I would come to a stop so it was mentally and physically very draining. Thankfully the wind died down and I could enjoy the scenery for the rest of the ride.
July 12, 2024,Imabari -> Mukaishima
Yesterday we cycled the Shimanami Kaido Cycling Road, one of the most beautiful cycling routes in the world, as they say and which I can confirm. An island hopping tour where you cross 6 bridges from Imabari City to Mukaishima Island and finally reach the mainland by ferry in just a few minutes. There are fantastic views of the islands …

Only cycle planned for this trip. Bit of a grey wet day. Loads of industry on the route shipyards mainly hardly surprising. Nearly a quarter of Japan's pop live in this area..
If you set off early, are fit and don't dawdle when sightseeing, you can do the tour in one day, so that you arrive at your destination on time and catch the shuttle bus (departure from Imbari station). We took the train from Fukuyama to Onomichi and the shuttle bus back from Imbari.
