A nice path, which is also worth it if you only go to the monastery. But you can also hike down to the sea.

October 15, 2023,Old monastery ruins – St. John’s monastery loop from Σταυρός
1st part of the tour is on tracks and road but with next to zero traffic once at the monastery its all paths and absolutely breathtaking
The loop back we saw 3 people in 8k perfect again with fantastic scenery 😁
Wanted to stop after the tour but Stavros had nothing to offer except overpriced fish restaurant.

From Agia Triada Monastery, the route initially leads over quiet paths through the barren landscape of Akrotiri. After a short time, you reach the small Agios Ioannis Chapel, picturesquely situated between rocks and Mediterranean vegetation. From here, the first views of Crete's north coast open up.

We started in Stavros and went into the mountains without any shade... several dead goats in varying states... The smell was also helped by the dragon root, which we encountered a lot today... it also gives off a smell of carrion... the path meandered up through rocks... then down again on the other side until we descended into a ravine... …

I had about 4 liters of water with me; 5 would have been better.
The last 7 km are asphalt and maybe some private gravel roads.
If you're coming from Stavros, I'd suggest going to the ruins and the small bay and then back the same way...prettier, more …

Since we didn't go through the fence gate at the start of the tour, we unfortunately had to walk a lot on the road. As is unfortunately often the case on Crete, one wonders on the first km why the Greeks have so little environmental awareness. From foil, garden chairs to refrigerators, everything can be found in "nature". I'll never …

Beautiful tour! Definitely physically demanding, good fitness required. Appropriate footwear recommended (many rocky sections).

We shortened the tour by 2km! The hot September temperatures did their best. No opportunity to buy food or drinks!

Agia Triada & Katholiko Monasteries & Hermit's Cave & Gorge Hike to the Sea.
A great hike that has everything to offer, but please don't underestimate it. It's best to wear hiking boots and bring at least 2-3 liters of water. You can refill your water in Stavros. The path to the monastery ruins is a very beautiful but relatively …
