The famous final scenes of the classic film "Alexis Sorbas" with Anthony Quinn were filmed here in 1964. The film is one of the most successful in film history and was awarded 3 Oscars. As a Crete fan you just have to watch this film and of course visit this place if you are in the area.
As always, there is more about this on Wikipedia: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexis_Sorbas_%28Film%29?wprov=sfla1

Nice tour that can also take up the whole day if you take advantage of the beautiful bays x take a bath in crystal clear waters and a typical Greek lunch.
I recommend from October until early spring. I would avoid the hot months, also because you have to take into account the constant wind, obviously always in your face!
Return to the state road. I recommend helmet and taillights.
