Dragon Gorge

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

After three weeks of hiking in Thuringia, I can say that this is the most beautiful natural spectacle I have seen. Great how the path meanders through the moss-covered rocks of the gorge.

We started early and had the gorge almost to ourselves. An absolute highlight, and not just for children - high rocks, water and plants create a unique backdrop.

The Dragon Gorge is always great. In winter with the loud rushing water and from spring onwards it is incredibly green.

However, it is also very busy at weekends, so if possible, choose a weekday to visit.

Regardless of the weather, the Drachenschlucht is always an experience. Spectacularly draped with icicles on cold winter days, today in the drizzle it resembled a huge graduation tower made of rock and moss. After the gorge, after a short rest with delicious Thuringian sausage, we continued comfortably through the forest. At the beautiful rest area "Wilde Sau" you have a …

Today we went to Eisenach in beautiful weather to run a little with the 🐶. Unfortunately the Drachenschlucht was completely overcrowded, but on a Saturday with the weather it was probably foreseeable 😄 The later the day got, the fewer people we met, which the little speedster liked quite a lot, so he could really let off steam and we …

Hohe Sonne - Drachenschlucht and back via the Pummpälzweg. 🥾🌳🌲

After we spent yesterday in the Bulli in continuous rain, today we went through the Drachenschlucht towards Wartburg. At the weekend and during the holiday season, it was sometimes quite a crowd, so we saved ourselves the detour to the Wartburg and chose the much quieter Lutherweg back.

When staying in Eisenach, a tour through the Dragon Gorge is a must. The path goes through impressive, moss-covered rock formations, below which the brook rushes. The Dragon Gorge is 2.6 km long and only 68 cm wide at the narrowest point.

Parking lot 4 would have been closer to the starting point. Parking lot 2 was only free at that time of day (12:30 p.m.).

The Drachenschlucht in the immediate vicinity of Eisenach is worth a visit... many others thought so too🙄. There were plenty of parking spaces, but hardly any were available, and certainly not free ones.
The gorge is beautiful, but the crowds pushed back and forth in the narrow places, which made it difficult to linger and take in the experience. Taking …
