It was also in the 1920s when people thought of a chapel on Lake Mummelsee. At this time, services were held for staff and guests in a hall of the Mummelsee hotel on Sundays. But it wasn't until 1937 that the chapel next to the hotel, where the women's path to Hornisgrinde begins, was inaugurated. It was dedicated to the Archangel Michael. In the period after the Second World War, the flow of tourists on the Black Forest high road and especially on Mummelsee grew steadily. Many wanted to attend the regular 11 o'clock service in the chapel there on Sunday, and the small chapel was no longer enough. Pastor Kiehnle from the Mummelsee parish Seebach therefore initiated the construction of a larger chapel.
This project was carried out on the opposite side of the hotel in 1970/1971. Architect Franz Fuchs from Ottenhöfen had planned the new Michaelskapelle well into the landscape, modeled the Black Forest house with the low roof and stylized the Black Forest fir with the slender turret. The worshipers were now able to accommodate 120 seats and around 150 standing places. On Sunday around St. Michael’s Day (September 29), many Seebachers made a procession to the Mummelsee chapel to fulfill a promise at the end of the war.
