Regensburg — UNESCO World Heritage Site

Highlight • Historical Site

In the High Middle Ages, Regensburg was a political center of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and a flourishing European trading center. The old town is an exceptional example of an intact medieval trading town (inclusion criterion iv). In 2006 UNESCO added the old town of Regensburg with Stadtamhof to the World Heritage List.

Not only the view of the castle, but also a detour up to the castle ruins is worth it!👌 Steep approach, but doable, just be brave!🚴🏻‍♂️ Great view from there and even the remains of this building are impressive!

Yes, you can drive up to the parking lot.

Cycling is prohibited beyond the monument and all the way around it!

The view and the insight into history are impressive. Especially the short construction time of only 12 years.

You have to experience it. Monumental building, you'll be amazed and have a great view!👍 It's worth a detour! A monumental building that, in my opinion, is in exactly the right place! It impressed me 20 years ago and the effect occurs again and again. If you have the opportunity, you should take a detour and visit the Hall of Fame.

A beautiful view over the Danube to the other side of the river. Great motif with a striking church tower opposite in Friesling. Really pretty to look at!

View of Regensburg Cathedral

Highlight • Viewpoint

When visiting Regensburg you definitely shouldn't miss it: A masterpiece of medieval architecture in Germany - The Stone Bridge.
Along with Regensburg Cathedral, it is the city's most important landmark and was certainly one of the reasons why Regensburg was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Stone Bridge, which connects the old Bavarian district of Stadtamhof with Regensburg's old town, was considered a real wonder of the world in the Middle Ages. It was built in just 11 years, probably between 1135 and 1146. The busy trade traffic of Regensburg, an important economic center in the Middle Ages, required the permanent river crossing. So the council and citizens decided to build the building. For almost 800 years, until 1935, it remained the only bridge that served as a reliable Danube crossing in Regensburg and the surrounding area. The impressive structure spans the river in round stone arches at around 300 meters.
