Sanctuary of Sant Salvador

Highlight • Religious Site

The Santuari de Sant Salvador (Catalan; Spanish Santuario de San Salvador), also Eremita de San Salvador, is located on the mountain Puig de Sant Salvador at a height of 509 meters. This includes the current church, which was built in 1707. In 1716 the large church was officially consecrated as Mare de Déu de Sant Salvador.
The interior is an interesting mishmash of the eventful history of this current pilgrimage destination.

Sant Salvador Cross

Highlight • Monument

Monastery built in the mid-14th century. It is located in the municipality of Felanitx, on top of Puig de Salvador, 509 meters above sea level. The building was completely restored in the 18th century. On the same hill are the monument to Cristo Rey and the Cruz de Picot, where you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view.
The church located in the same space is open daily.

At the top of the mountain, the 7m high statue of Christ stands proudly on a 37m high tower. It was donated by a wealthy Mallorcan and was inaugurated in 1934.
The spacious car park offers plenty of parking.

Creu d'Es Picot

Highlight • Monument

Meaning and purpose: It was erected as a religious monument to strengthen the faith of the inhabitants of Felanitx and to emphasize the spiritual significance of the mountain. It also serves as a widely visible landmark and viewing platform.
Construction: The cross is about 14 meters high and is made of solid stone. It replaced earlier, simpler wooden crosses that had been destroyed at this exposed location by the elements.
Location: It is located on the secondary summit of the mountain (the Picot), which can be reached by a short footpath from the monastery car park.
Experience: From the foot of the cross, you have one of the best 360-degree views of Mallorca, stretching from the island of Cabrera in the south, across the Tramuntana mountains, to the bay of Alcúdia in the north.

Hiking on our favorite island (lieblingsinsel.net)

As we have done for many years now, we hiked up to our local mountain, Sant Salvador, again today, December 31, 2025. And this year, we actually found our "treasure" from last year again. In this little box, we write down our resolutions and wishes for the coming year and then "hide" the box …

Very nice hike on the Way of the Cross to Sant Salvador. Wonderful view. Parking right at the start of the tour is great (although it is not mentioned anywhere).

Whenever we have the opportunity to spend the turn of the year on the island, it is a small ritual to hike up Sant Salvador. Today on December 31st, 2021 in glorious sunshine.

We park at km 1.2 and then it's about 300 hm across country up to the monastery of Sant Salvador. The ascent is …

After last night's thunderstorm and rain, it's cooled down a bit in Mallorca. Today we have a mix of sun and clouds at around 25°C – ideal weather for a short hike this afternoon. We're heading up to our local mountain, Sant Salvador at 510m.

Like almost every year, today on December 31st, 2024, we hiked up to our local mountain, the Sant Salvador. And we actually found our "treasure" from last year again. In this little box we write down our resolutions and wishes for the coming year and then "hide" the box somewhere up there ;-)

At over 30 degrees and again in charming company 🥰

The ascent on our route is very steep and ends at kilometer 1.31 in front of a high wall. You have to climb over it 🙈

My first recorded tour, unfortunately I only discovered the function after the ascent... I started at the hiking car park directly on the PMV 4011 road along a side road heading west, which after a few meters leads into a small, unpaved hiking trail. Initially a gentle climb, it soon becomes significantly steeper and the path becomes a narrow path …
