...a very well-developed cycle path! In some places a section is missing and you have to look for the continuation! 🔍

A superb cycle path along a former railway line, an absolute experience. From Tarvisio onward, it gets even better. More info: alpe-adria-radweg.com/mobile/de

Alpe Adria Cycle Route

Highlight • Cycleway

This cycle path is 415 kilometers long and connects the cities of Grado and Salzburg. It can be traveled in both directions. In Italy it is called “FVG 1” while in Austria it is “R2.” The cycle path took the place of the old railway of which many details can still be seen, especially the tunnels, stations and some tracks. Along the cycle route some of the stations have become bars/restaurants, creating important refreshment points for cyclists. The cycle path was inaugurated in 2011.

Not every tunnel is a highlight, but the route is very nice for cycling.
This time we waited for a rain shower.

Beautiful route. Unfortunately, about 10km before Venzone the old cycle path is buried and you have to switch to the busy road.

The Gailtal is a valley running from East Tyrol to Carinthia. It begins in Kartitsch and ends near Villach. The Gailtal does not form a hydrogeographical unit: most of the valley is drained by the Gail to the east, where it flows into the Drau near the village of Maria Gail; the westernmost section of the valley, on the other hand, is drained westwards (also towards the Drau) by the Gailbach. The Kartitscher saddle is the valley watershed.

Detoxifying ride after many days (too many) in which I have not been able to ride a bike ...

Departure from Ugovizza and ascent from Pontebba towards Passo Pramollo. It is a constant 13 km, with slopes that are never important but which, in my opinion, requires a good workout. Few cars, you can stop at the …

A light drizzle greets us when we wake up.
Bad weather today, don't let us down.
Even Chinese raincoats, €1.50, are in our purse; not a drop escapes.
We leave the car there, at the edge of a meadow, the bike path a stone's throw away.
From Pontebba, the Pramollo Pass takes us to the Austrian border.
A beautiful, wild, …
