Top Touring Cycling Routes to Ciclovia Alpe Adria
Tips
  • This cycle path is 415 kilometers long and connects the cities of Grado and Salzburg. It can be traveled in both directions. In Italy it is called “FVG 1” while in Austria it is “R2.” The cycle path took the place of the old railway of which many details can still be seen, especially the tunnels, stations and some tracks. Along the cycle route some of the stations have become bars/restaurants, creating important refreshment points for cyclists. The cycle path was inaugurated in 2011.

  • Super nice bike path from Tarvisio to Moggio, unfortunately not to Carnia.

  • One thing you have to leave to the Italians, they have incredible ideas!
Here you have the abandoned railway line turned into a perfect bike path

  • The approximately 60 km long stage from Tarvisio to Carnia / Venzone is the most interesting and spectacular section on the Alpe-Adria bike path (Salzburg-Grado). The route for downhill and meandering along a former railway track along the Channel Valley and the Fiume Fella through 22 tunnels and over old bridges to the south. Very worthwhile!

  • Very well developed bike path. Even if it bothers you at the moment, but it's good that you are slowed down a bit by safety devices. Otherwise you would race too fast through the fantastic landscape.

  • Really very great route! The path leads almost exclusively on the old railway line and is very well developed and therefore there are few crossings with roads and no tight curves, but a lot of nature and a magnificent view! But there is a small drawback: Unfortunately, shortly before Venzone, it is not quite finished and the diversion leads over the motor vehicle, but there is an approximately 1m wide shoulder on both sides. Attention when leaving, you have to cross the street completely and the vehicles rush through without braking! Hopefully the last section, where construction is already underway, will soon be passable and this gap will be closed!

  • If you have the opportunity, you should definitely take the Alpe-Adria cycle path. The part through the Canal Valley is certainly one of the most beautiful bike paths.
