Vilsalpsee Lakeside Path

Highlight • Lake

The Vilsalpsee is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Tannheimer Tal, if not in the whole of Tyrol. Nestled in a nature reserve and surrounded by towering mountains, it offers you a unique panorama. The way here is simple and well developed, making it suitable for the whole family.

If you like, you can take the bus from the north shore or return to Tannheim with a tourist train. At the bus stop you will also find the Fischerhütte restaurant and the Gasthof Vilsalpsee.

We made a round trip from the Vilsalpsee via the Landsberger Hütte to the Schrecksee. Wonderful experience, worth it! But you should start right in the morning.

View of Rote Spitze

Highlight • Viewpoint

The red tip is a 2130 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the group of Vilsalpsee mountains in the Allgäu Alps in Tyrol. It is located in front of the ridge and thus rises in the middle of the round of the summit framing of the Alpl and Traualpsee.

From the north and west, the Rote Spitze appears as a typical Allgäu steep grass summit with several rock breaks, while from the southwest it appears as an isolated, towering and peculiarly sloping peak. A nonetheless easy ascent, which is also possible from the Landsberger Hütte and from the Saalfelder Weg with little expenditure of time, is made possible by the less steep terrain on the southeast side.

The neighboring peaks of the Rote Spitze are Steinkarspitze and Geierköpfle.

Landsberger Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Landsberger Hut is a great rest stop on the Three Lakes Tour and on all other hikes above Lake Vilsalpsee. It's also a perfect base for further summit climbs. The hut has 30 beds in shared rooms and 80 beds in a dormitory.

The hut is open from late May to mid-October; in winter, there is also a small winter room with 16 beds. Information and reservations at dav-landsberg.de/landsbergerhuette.

The Lache is the smallest and also the highest of the three lakes, Vilsalpsee, Traualpsee and Lache. It gave the Lachenspitze its name and is located directly at its foot, below the Landsberger Hut.

A tough climb, not suitable for everyone. But you will be rewarded for it. The beautiful mountain lake offers a wonderful view before you set off on the last stretch to the Landsberger Hut.

Vilsalpsee Nature Reserve

Highlight • Lake

Lake Vilsalpsee is a lake located 1,165 meters above sea level in the Austrian part of the Allgäu Alps. The Vils River flows through it. Located below the Gaishorn and Rauhhorn peaks, it is a popular tourist destination in the Tannheimer Valley. An easy hiking trail leads around the lake, reaching the Bergaicht Waterfall at the valley's end. Since 1957, it has been surrounded by the Vilsalpsee Nature Reserve, where many species thrive, including rare orchids. The lake is the highest breeding ground in Austria for the great crested grebe.

July 2, 2022,Allgäuer Alpen - Durchs Tannheimer Tal - Vom Vilsalpsee zum Schrecksee - Rundweg
It's worth getting up early for. Again this time. The starting point is directly at the Vilsalpsee, which, however, can only be accessed by car before 8:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m. First we went to the Schrecksee.

Then continue on the Saalfeld Höhenweg to the Traualpsee. A strenuous but beautiful day tour for experienced hikers 🎒🏔🌱

The Schrecksee is one of my highlights of the year, every year. Everything went well today, with a clear blue sky we rocked my favorite tour. We met Anjte at the Landsbergerhütte.

A mountain tour couldn't be more perfect!

There are experiences that you would like to experience a second time. Like this hiking tour through the Tannheimer Valley. A not-so-easy tour, but one that can be enjoyed without any problems with a normal fitness level and the appropriate willpower.

Long awaited goal achieved.✅️

🪧 Important things first, nobody has to read everything:

• This is a mountain tour in the alpine area at about 1500 to 1900 meters above sea level.
• Almost everywhere no cell phone reception. You have your peace. Plan with komoot offline map. 📵
• Mountain boots/trekking shoes, 🥾 possibly hiking sticks and at least …

Parked at the paid car park P1.
The first bus then went to the Vilsalpsee. The bus was already full at this time. To my fear of a mass ascent to the Landsberger Hütte, most chose a different or opposite route. Always nice and in the shade, we went up to the Traualpsee.
After a short break in the Landsberger …

4-lake tour (Vilsalpsee - Schrecksee - Lache - Traualpsee)

The start was the paid parking lot at Vilsalpsee (day ticket 7 euros), access only possible until 10:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. € 7

The path initially leads flat along the Vilsalpsee to the Vilsalpe. The ascent towards Gaishorn and Rauhhorn begins here. The path is nicely laid out, easy …

And if that's not enough, then you have to pack something on top of it.

Today then Vilsalpsee up to the Schrecksee and via the Landsberger hut along the Traualpbach

A huge tour and finally being able to experience the Schrecksee 🤩🤩🤩

Once a year I treat myself to the Schrecksee. The lake is uniquely beautiful with its greenery and the island.
Iris & Frank went the tour for the first time and can now understand why I like this route so much. An all-round filled day, the best hiking weather and apart from the Landsberger hut (thanks Christof * lol *) …
