"Schmitts Kappelchen" - that's the name of the over 100 year old vineyard house / Spitzhäusje - is located above the Red Slope. It was not until 2015 that two renters brought it into shape inside and out.

July 18, 2025,RheinTerrassenWeg - Von Nierstein nach Bodenheim (E5)
So, our final stop and also something of a highlight of the Rhine Terraces Trail.

Following the old Rhine Heights Trail, we walked from Worms to Mainz. While the stage from Guntersblum to Nierstein was already exceptionally beautiful, it continued to Bodenheim, a highlight for us Rhine lovers (and romantics) due to the initial route along the river.

We actually wanted to go to Oppenheim.
Because of the difficult, lengthy journey and the constant rain, we preferred a cozy final stop in the Fritz Reichert wine tavern/Straußwirtschaft with Rhine-Hessian specialties in Nierstein.

The penultimate stage of the Rhine Terrace Trail led from Nierstein via Nackenheim to Bodenheim. The most beautiful stage so far in terms of the panorama, although the asphalt portion of the ground is very high. The paths offer little shade, which was a bit of a problem in today's summer temperatures. But it was beautiful.

@Andrea and I went on a "detox hike" today after the party yesterday. Our group was small today but nice! The weather wasn't good at all. It was almost always raining, so instead of walking to Oppenheim, we had delicious coffee and cake in a restaurant on the market square in Nierstein. We don't have to sacrifice ourselves any more …

Today the 5th stage of the RheinTerrassenWeg takes place in beautiful sunshine and summer temperatures. Compared to the original, this stage is a little shortened, but the 4th was a little longer.
We couldn't take the planned path through Heyl'schen Garten - the gate was locked.
There was a lot of hustle and bustle at St. Martin's Church; it was …

This individual 5th stage of the Rhine Terrace Trail (the official one ended in Oppenheim) begins on the west side of Nierstein train station. Hikers follow Ernst-Ludwig-Straße in a straight line until it rejoins the long-distance hiking trail at the intersection with Bildstockstraße, and then follow the markings to the right. A true Nierstein landmark suddenly comes into view: the …
