Büsenbach Valley

Highlight • Natural

Alternative to the sheepfold ;-)
In addition to currywurst and fries in the food truck, there is delicious ice cream and cake inside. You can also make your pit stop before or after the Büsenbachtal here.
A terrace outside invites you to linger.

In the middle of the Lüneburg Heath is the Café Schafstall, which, as the name suggests, is located in an old sheepfold, which has been lovingly restored. From simple coffee with cake to delicious entree, you'll get everything to keep you fit for the rest of the tour. In the kitchen, the emphasis is on fresh products from regional, sustainable cultivation.

Friday to Sunday and public holidays 11am to 10pm

November to July

If you want to stop for a meal, making a reservation makes sense.

Büsenbach valley

Highlight • Natural

One of the most beautiful heath areas is the Büsenbachtal near Handeloh.
From the car park you start into the flat valley along the Büsenbach and after a few meters the valley opens up into a wide heath area of incredible beauty.
The small Büsenbach flows through the valley, with wonderful heather-covered hills rising to the right and left. Dark green, gnarled junipers provide a fantastic contrast to the purple flowering heath areas. Silver-white birches rustle in the wind and you can hear the stream babbling.
The Büsenbach is a nutrient-poor river fed from a spring moor. Here you can experience the special phenomenon of a "stream sinkhole", where the course of the water seeps into the ground and reappears further down.

From the "Pferdekopf", the highest hill, you have a great view of the valley. Benches invite you to have a picnic and a large forest area surrounds the entire valley.
Sandy paths lead through the area, a great area for hikers. And maybe you'll even see the shepherd with his flock of sheep, who often walks through the valley in the afternoon.
By the way: The Büsenbachtal is located directly on the "Heidschnuckenweg" quality hiking trail.

Heathland in Büsenbachtal

Highlight • Natural

Picture-perfect heathlands...during flowering.

Afterward, everything turns brown again. Its charm is also evident in winter.

Gravel path in Lüneburg Heath forest

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This section right at the beginning of the round was only newly laid out in summer 2020 and consists of perfect gravel underground. Slightly sloping (25 meters decrease in height) you can start the round here quickly on a perfect surface and immediately feel like you want more. At the end of the descent, the loop continues to the right on a wavy section.

Highlight • Historical Site

Two ancient "roads" meet here: the west/east route from Verden to a crossing on the Elbe, and the "Jaspers Way," running south/north from the Aller to the Lower Elbe. There are confirmed finds dating from the period between 800 and 950 AD.

Cycle path near Wörme

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

On this section, accompanied only by the Erixx railway line and a parallel running bridle path, it is nice to cycle far away from car traffic. Hardly any gravel, rather solid ground without tree roots.
