The city of Salzburg already recognized its responsibility towards its architectural heritage in the 1960s of the 20th century. The protection of the world cultural heritage is now also legally anchored as an objective in the city's constitution. Also on a legal basis, in 2017 the old town protection zone including the Wilhelminian period areas was aligned with the core area of the World Heritage zone.
