Asbach Valley Stream Trail

Even if the Asbach has been forced into a corset here and the hiking trail is paved next to it... it's amazing how quickly you can get from Essen city center to the green.

View of the "Monte Müll". It is an abandoned rubbish dump for building rubble and other things. It is currently being degassed and should be accessible in the future.

A bit too much city in Essen Kupferdreh, but otherwise nice, and a lot of ups and downs. Good training

It would certainly have been nicer to follow the Priemhauser Weg at the end of the Asbachtal. We also thought that you could walk along the Deilbach to the Ruhr and ended up in Kupferdreh "City". The route can be easily reached by public transport. All in all, a varied hike with a few meters in altitude.

A pleasant tour with paths suitable for bad weather.
The highlight was the female tawny owl that we could hear and see. 🤩

A really nice hike - in large parts it goes through the forest, from time to time quite demanding because steep, narrow and slippery when wet. Sturdy shoes are recommended. Sneakers are rather unsuitable.

Everything is there, from asphalt at the start to mud up to the ankles in the Asbachtal.

I got the tour from the Hikeline hiking guide Bergisches Land. Slightly modified, as the recommended Gasthof Haus Ruhrblick in the Volkspark no longer exists, we left out the detour into the Volkspark altogether.

A nice weekend hike in Essen in the best weather with nice people and a rewarding stop in the outdoor area of the Lukas!

Thanks to Juergen!

Start was at the LUKAS restaurant -

It went along the Ruhr, over the Augustagsteig to the lower Asbachtal.

Great hiking weather and very good-humored fellow hikers. Thank you 👌🌞
