Bosel Tree Trail

Highlight • Trail

What kind of tree is that? From now on, this question will be answered on the new tree deposit on the Bosel. Carefully made educational boards summarize the most important things about the forest and selected tree species.

From the Boselweg in Sörnewitz over the Haselgrund, the steep ascent leads to the Bosel view; However, this path requires a bit of stamina. Alternatively, we recommend the newly designed car park on the Bosel (approx. 100 m in front of the Boselspitze guest house) as a starting point for those who are not so good on foot or with a stroller.

The Sörnewitz dendrologist Prof. Peter A. Schmidt is responsible for the content, i.e. the selection of tree species, the well-founded texts and the numerous photos. The graphic implementation was carried out by two young urban planners Julia Grzybowska and Martin Lier.

The manual work was carried out by the DRK Meissen's workshop for the disabled. In the past few weeks, the Coswig construction depot has set up the 34 boards (in addition to the stations on the trees and biotopes there are two introductory boards). The costs for the city of Coswig were around 15,000 euros.

From the small terrace at the transition from the forest to the vineyards, the distant view opens up into Nassau and beyond to the Radebeul vineyards. When visibility is good, the Dresden television tower and the table mountains of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains can also be seen on the horizon. There is also a bench here that invites you to linger.

Schwalbennest Vineyard House

Highlight • Monument

This small pleasure house and guard house, built in the 19th century, originally belonged to the Rote Presse winery. It even had a small corner turret and a sloping roof facing the mountain. Today it is the castle of the Saxon wine queen. And here on the slope also grows the wine with which the Queen presents the Saxon growing region.

Bosel Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

At the top of the German Bosel, the guest house and restaurant Boselspitze and the Bosel Tower are close together.

"The 17 m high Bosel Tower was built near the Deutsche Bosel in 1898, a listed observation tower that has been open to the public again since 2012 after extensive renovation." - de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaargebirge#Erschlie%C3%9Fung
One euro in the can and you have a great all-round view from Niederau over Coswig to the Radebeul vineyards, on to the Elbe slopes with the television tower to Saxon Switzerland with the striking Lilienstein and Königstein. On the other side of the Elbe you can see the Niederwartha pumped storage plant and the "Golden Gate" in front of it. If the trees are not too leafy, it is also possible to look in the other direction to Meissen.

This place invites you to linger.
It is a very nice, smaller, quiet viewing platform with several benches and, on top of that, this wonderful view of Meissen.

Today's stage is not long but all the more beautiful 😍 First it goes through wide field landscapes in which pure country idyll hovers in the air 😉But from here I can already see the high hills of the Spaar Mountains, which I will hike through today 🏔

The fifth stage of the Saxon Wine Trail officially starts in Oberau. If you leave out the first kilometer, you start in Niederau, which you can reach directly from Meißen by bus. At first it is flat across the country, with no sign of wine far and wide. Shortly after Zaschendorf you will find the first vineyards and it goes …

Another great tour today. Finally in Meissen a glass of wine, a tour of the cathedral and shopping at "EinSeifer".

Today, the penultimate stage of the Saxon Wine Trail was on the agenda. It led from Oberau Castle to Meißen via the Spaar Mountains. At the beginning, the route is rather monotonous and features few highlights. The Spaar Mountains are charming, and the view from the Boselspitze is a real highlight.

Today we finally went back to Saxony. 😃 When I arrived in Weinböhla by train 🚂 I started walking because the weather was still hazy and I wanted to give the ☀️ a little time to get out. Actually, the start was planned from Niederau, and otherwise I would have taken the bus 🚌 there.

With a detour to the Meissner Schwerter brewery it was boring, but then nice.

Today I did another stage of the wine hiking trail with my hiking friend franga 1963, it was the 5th from Oberau to Meißen. It was another wonderful tour, with beautiful weather 🌞. From Oberau - Neusoernewitz - Soernewitz - Bosel - Juchhoeh - Elbradweg - Messen - Bhf. Messen. 🤠🤠😄😄
