Roller coaster ride of emotions 🥾🏕🏔This is a long-distance hike for me so often 🙈 There are days when I would like nothing more than to keep hiking and enjoying nature. And on other days I would like to throw my backpack in the corner and drive back home 😅Today is such a day. A Monday without any wanderlust. Instead, I'm homesick and miss friends and family. The landscape and the hiking trail are unfortunately still quite boring and most of the time I am on wide gravel roads. At lunchtime I reach a campsite where I have a bite to eat, something cool to drink and charge my power bank. After talking to friends and family on the phone, I feel better 😊.A very special highlight is waiting for me in the afternoon. I meet Flowerman, whom I met on my hike on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2017 😄. What a nice and funny encounter that ends with a statement “The HRP is often much harder than the PCT” 🙈😅 Why? The path is not signposted, often there is no path at all and I climb up the mountain cross-country, the meters in altitude are really tough and actually it is mostly steep uphill and downhill. In addition, there are far fewer hikers here.Speaking of climbing: It's often part of the standard program here anyway, and it's sometimes not that easy with the large backpack.

Cake for breakfast 😄This is how a morning can begin 😍 I also need it for motivation, because afterwards I have to walk down the street again to leave Parzan. This time with an incredibly heavy backpack, thanks to all the food.Note: Never go shopping hungry. I actually know but I did it anyway 😅🙈 Now I'm carrying the consequences of it on my back.To be honest, today's stage is a little boring. At first I just run the dirt road for hours and keep the mood up with singing 😉In the afternoon I follow the GR11 to a small shepherd's hut behind which I pitch my tent. In the evening the shepherd joins his dogs and so this rather unspectacular day comes to an end.

Amazed 😮🏔These are the two boys who camped with me at the little hut yesterday. Their jaws fell down when they heard how many kilometers I run every day and what I plan to do 😅 They ask several times and are completely amazed 😄Unfortunately, I'm the one who is totally flabbergasted and scared an hour later. Both water sources have dried up. Now I have to get to the next lake with my emergency liter 🙈 Luckily I always have it with me, otherwise I would have had to descend everything again 😮While the sun climbs up the sky, I enjoy the view of the cloud-covered mountains. Then it goes quickly to the lake, where I immediately drink greedily from the cool and fresh water. So of course only after I've filtered it 😉I use this romantic place right by the lake for my lunch break and finally for a round of yoga again. That is incredibly good for my legs 😍With fresh legs, I'm going up the mountain, across the French-Spanish border. An enchanted forest with heavenly soft ground leads me to ...? I have to follow a road that is full of traffic to the town of Parzan. "That is just tired of life" I mumble as I walk towards the speeding cars on the hard shoulder and keep drawing my attention to myself with my sticks.

Not until 9:30 am I leave Garvarnie with the first crowds of tourists. As on my crossing of the Alps, it goes single file up the mountain 🥾🏔Fortunately, it gets less and less the higher I get and after leaving the mountain hut behind me I'm on my own again 😊Unfortunately, there are not many other HRP hikers, mostly I only meet day hikers. As soon as I have reached the pass, it goes straight downhill again. This is so typical of HRP, most of the time it is steep uphill or downhill.Once again I follow a river to a lake in the valley. Then there is a long stretch on the paved road, which my feet do not like at all. That's why I treat myself to a break in the next village and something cool to drink before I venture the last ascent. It is already late and it is wonderfully pleasant to walk into the cool evening. Only at 8 p.m. do I reach my intended campsite and set up my tent directly behind the Schäfershütte. A large portion of pasta is quickly cooked and eaten before I fall asleep tired and exhausted.

Mountain love 🥰🏔🧡The wind howls around the rustic mountain hut early in the morning. The night here was really good for me 😍 I leave the hut first and start the ascent at dawn. Accompanied by the whistling of the wind, I climb the mountain alone. The sun bathes the mountains in golden light and pink clouds cover the blue sky. “What a wonderful morning” I think 😍 When the pass that is to be climbed today comes into view, a feeling of happiness spreads inside me.A few minutes later I'm standing high up, surrounded by these mighty and rugged mountains, and I'm just happy. Nobody can take away this feeling of climbing up this mountain with all my luggage 😉Accompanied by a small stream, I descend into the valley. This gets bigger and bigger and winds through the lush green meadows. Waterfalls rush in my ears and finally the very small stream ends in a large reservoir. The further I descend, the more tourists I meet until I reach Garvarnie. This little place is teeming with crowds and souvenir shops, cotton candy stands and donkey rides are lined up close together. For me it goes straight to the tourist office, where a package with my one person tent is fortunately already waiting for me 🏕 And another little surprise awaits me in the package: A little wooden heart from Matthias, which will accompany me on my further hike and, hopefully, me Will bring luck 🧡

Suddenly traveling alone 🙈🏔And everything changes so quickly. Do you know the feeling of jumping into cold water from a 10 meter board? When the cold of the water envelops you? That's how I feel today, because unfortunately the soles of Jana's shoes are loosening more and more. This makes the descents especially difficult and dangerous. We then have to make a decision at Refuge Wallon. This is a descent to the next town for Jana. And although it was planned from the start that she would only accompany me for the first two weeks, it is strange to be suddenly on my side. Although I've hiked alone several times, I feel sad, a little lost and lonely at first ...But then I pull the rip cord and instead of continuing to lose myself in negative thoughts, I prefer to look around. After all, I am right in the middle of an idyllic mountain landscape and am currently realizing my dream. I shouldn't mop up, but make the best of it 😊Jana took our tent with her for the descent and so it happened that for the first time on this tour I slept in a mountain hut. Luckily there are only three of us in a room for 20 people and I sleep on top of one of the wooden bunk beds. Before I go to sleep there is a cheese platter and, despite a small lump in my throat, I'm slowly getting better. I am starting to look forward to my time alone in the Pyrenees and am looking forward to all the experiences and adventures that await me 🏕🏔😍

Rain is dripping onto our tent roof 🌧When I crawl out of the tent there is a thick fog in the air and the small raindrops moisten my skin. Not exactly a weather that gives me great wanderlust 🥾 But it doesn't help and we wrap ourselves in colorful rainwear. Fortunately, over time the rain clouds disappear and our mood rises together with the sun coming out.We walk past beautiful mountain lakes to a small, rustic hut, which has delicious hot chocolate (from the shell?! 😂) and cakes for us.And then it goes to ...?
Of course, to the next beautiful mountain lake, after all, we're still in the land of lakes 😉 And even if it's still too cold to swim, I at least dare to put my feet in it.
The evening holds an unpleasant surprise in store. After just 250km of hiking, the sole of Jana's hiking boots comes off. We try to repair the whole thing with duct tape. But whether she can get to the next town or have to get down earlier ?! 🙈If you already want to know how it will go on, you can just visit my blog:

The land of a thousand lakes 🏔Today we are entering a new landscape in the Pyrenees. A landscape full of mountain lakes and high mountain peaks that tower into the sky. And even if the Basque Country was already beautiful, this area is simply a dream and I can't get out of the enthusiasm 🥰We start from the Refugio Valle dem Aragon in Candancu at 1550m and follow the road up into the mountains.Hiking in such a mountain setting puts a smile on my face all day long. And that although it is also quite exhausting 🙈 Because today we have to scramble a lot, cross large scree fields and in some places really pay attention and be careful.Nevertheless we make good progress and reach the Refuge de Pombie in the afternoon. So it happens that we just fill up our water bottles at the well in front of the house and descend a little further until we reach a forest where we pitch our tent 🏕

The marmot greets you every day 😉Even today, the small tufts of brown fur accompany us with loud, glaring screams on our hike 😄 And we hike again today. What else? 😜To be honest, the days are pretty much the same sometimes. Of course we get new spectacular views every day, scramble up new mountains and swim in other mountain lakes, but our days all consist of the same rhythm: running, eating, sleeping 🥾Today we come to a small town for a change, with a mini supermarket which, luckily, is even open on Sundays. I once packed a picture of our shopping so that you can see what we are eating on the way 😉 Above all, cheese and chocolate must not be missing from me 😄What do you prefer to eat on your hikes? 🧀🍩🍪🥪

Good morning ☀️I am woken up by the sound of the waterfall right next to our tent. A new day of hiking is coming up 😍 But before it really starts, we treat ourselves to a large and delicious breakfast in the small mountain village of Lescun. With chocolate cross paints, baguettes, cheese and fruit in our stomachs, we drag ourselves up the hot and long ascent.
Past herds of sheep and ever higher mountains 🏔
Our goal today is a managed hut, next to which we can camp for free. That is really great here in France 😊 Would the possibility to camp next to the mountain huts also be great in Germany 😉 The Refugio d‘Arlet is quite rustic but impresses with a large lake right next to it. "Shall we?" I ask Jana and a little later we plunge into the cool water 😍The cooling down is simply wonderful after a strenuous day of hiking. This one ends with a hail shower and a rainbow 🌈
