This family's cemetery is located one and a half kilometers to the northwest, on Oude Grindweg. The family is now extinct in the male line, but the name Van Coehoornweg still commemorates them. The manor house is a municipal monument, with its white plastered walls and hanging towers, resembling a small castle. In 1998, a fire raged here, completely destroying the interior of the house, which was subsequently fully restored. Today, it is privately owned and occupied as such. A driveway leads from here to Oude Grindweg. Behind the manor house is the original Flemish barn of Hoeve Heerenbeek 6, which was fully restored in 1997. The Flemish barn of Hoeve Heerenbeek is the oldest building on the estate and is a national monument, also privately occupied.

Heerenbeek is the name of an estate located in the north of the municipality of Oirschot. It is part of the Mortelen and Scheeken area and is owned by the Brabant Landscape Foundation. In 1303, Duke John II of Brabant donated 80 acres of land in the Straten herdgang to Park Abbey in Heverlee. This likely consisted of marshy forest and heathland. A map from 1650 shows a farmstead called Heerenbeek situated in the middle of the marshy area, on a small sand hill. In 1760, this farmstead came into the possession of Marcellus van Bles, Lord of Moergestel. He converted the farmland and heathland into an estate. He commissioned the construction of a large manor house, the predecessor of the current manor house, built in 1864 by Jan Philip de Girard de Mielet van Coehoorn.

wonderfully beautiful landscape with all its fens and heathland

often in spring some hiking trails are inaccessible due to high groundwater, so you will have to take a detour, but that is not a problem, there are plenty of other hiking trails that allow you to continue the route

Sonseheide walking paths are well laid out and often a bit wider

For centuries, the Sonse Heide was a vast expanse of heathland and drifting sands used by local farmers for sheep grazing and sod cutting. In the 19th and 20th centuries, much of it was replanted with coniferous forests, but the old heathlands and fens, such as the Langven, have been preserved as reminders of this ancient landscape. The area gained particular notoriety during the Second World War. In September 1944, during Operation Market Garden, Allied troops landed in this area. The Sonse Heide lay at the center of the route leading to the bridge at Son, a crucial crossing over the Wilhelmina Canal. Monuments and stories from the region still recall this period. Today, the Sonse Heide is not only a valuable nature reserve but also a place where history remains tangible. The Langven, which has been here for centuries, stands as a natural silent witness to everything this landscape has experienced.
