Nestled in the wooded surroundings of the Aa River valley, Natuurpoort Kasteel Heeswijk is an ideal starting point for a walk or bike ride. The castle has stood for about 1,000 years, long serving as an impregnable fortress on the Aa River, surrounded by marshes. From the castle, you can take beautiful walks through the woods, lanes, and fields of the estate. The castle moat is home to castle carp and black swans. The kingfisher is also a regular visitor. Enjoy coffee, lunch, or a drink at De Barones. The castle is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In January, it is only open on Saturdays and Sundays. On the edge of the Wijboschbroek nature reserve stands the Schijndel Sheepfold. It's one of the most beautiful spots in Schijndel. Besides the typical cultural heritage rebuilt here, it's especially the unique traditional Dutch sheep that invite you to visit this special location. The Sheepfold isn't just a pleasant resting place for visitors, cyclists, and hikers. Workshops and educational projects for all ages also regularly take place. Refreshments are available inside and on the adjacent terrace of 't Skupke. The Sheepfold volunteers are present daily. If the gate is open, you're welcome to come and have a look. Feel free to explore the beautiful garden, the pond, and the beehives behind the Hop-est. The Sheepfold volunteers are present Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
