This route connects three landscapes, each with its own unique history: the Hazenputten, the Dommelbeemden, and the Vressel forest area. The Hazenputten are remnants of old heathland and reclaimed lands, named after drinking and extinguishing wells that have been part of the landscape for centuries. From this higher, sandy area, the route descends to the Dommelbeemden: a classic stream valley landscape along the Dommel, where "beemden" used to flood annually and were used as hay meadows. This centuries-old land use created open grasslands of high natural value. The Vressel forms the counterbalance: a forest area on former heathland, planted from the 19th century onwards to control drifting sand and extract timber. The alternation between open stream valley, old cultivated land, and sheltered forest makes this hike a peaceful yet varied walk through a typical Brabant landscape, shaped by water, soil, and human use.

De Vresselse Hut Nature Gateway is located near the Vresselse Forest. This cycling café is an ideal stop and lunch spot for hikers, cyclists, mountain bikers, and other passers-by. Located next to the Vresselse Forest, De Vresselse Hut Nature Gateway offers wonderful walks along the marked trails of the Dutch Forestry Commission. There's also a dog walking route. Of course, you can also explore the countryside via the junctions for hikers and cyclists. For mountain bikers, there's a route through fields and forests that's considered one of the top routes in Brabant. You can park your car safely and easily in the parking lot with the large key. After a breath of fresh air, relax in the restaurant area or on the terrace. Here you can enjoy a drink while the kitchen prepares a snack or lunch for you. The children can play in the playground or kick a ball around. Bad weather? Enjoy a game of bowling on the bowling alleys! You can also find fun group activities here. Getting married at De Vresselse Hut is a special moment in the wedding garden and festive rooms. Exchange vows in the heart of the countryside, and the entire day is taken care of. The station opened in 1873 and served as a small stop for the hamlet of Kasteren, between Liempde and Sint-Oedenrode. The building stood along the route that connected international trains to Germany and on to Russia, but passenger services ceased early in the 20th century. After the line closed, the stop lost its function, but the station building was preserved as a recognizable heritage site with the typical NBDS architectural style: a compact stone structure with gables and simple details. Today, the old station is a striking landmark in the landscape along the former railway line, which is now primarily used for walking and cycling.
