I did the tour yesterday and discovered that the recommended route is outdated. Several bike paths have been demolished and replaced with new ones, which aren't signposted. You have to search for them, but it's worth it. And always remember: if there's a dead-end sign, you can't go any further. Still worth seeing!

The Pettemerduinen is a long, narrow strip of dunes between the Zwanenwater and the robust dike of the Hondsbossche Seawall, in the northernmost tip of North Holland. You can take sheltered walks in the woods, gaze far into the distance from the high dune peaks, or enjoy the fresh air on the beach. The dune peaks are pristine white, and orchids bloom in dozens of shades of pink and purple in the wet dune valleys. To the east lies the multi-colored polder with bulb fields, and on the other side of the dunes lies the blue North Sea with the constant sound of the surf. Variety reigns supreme here: woods, heathlands, dune lakes, and, of course, the beach. From the high dune peaks, you can see both the polder and the sea at your feet. You share the area with birds, rabbits, foxes, stoats, and the black Galloway cattle that keep the dune vegetation short.
