The former steam pumping station was built in 1873. The pumping station is simple and functional in design and was built by the Anna Paulowna contractor P. Wilms. The pumping station is of general interest due to its cultural and architectural historical value. It is a largely original 19th-century pumping station in an eclectic style that was essential to the development of the Anna Paulowna polder.

On April 9, 1944, 36 American P-51 Mustang fighters of the 363rd Fighter Group took off from Staplehurst Air Base in England. Their task was to escort American bombers returning from a raid on Tutow in Germany and protect them from German fighters. At 14:25, just off the Danish coast, pilot Pollard experienced engine problems. He turned around and flew back via the Wadden Sea, but lost more and more altitude. His wingman, 2nd Lt. Deeds, followed him until they disappeared into a bank of clouds, about 1,000 meters above Texel. At 14:50, Deeds lost sight of him and could not make radio contact. Shortly afterwards, Deeds saw flames and smoke, indicating a crash in the water. Pollard was killed. His body washed ashore on 19 April 1944 at the Waddenzeedijk near Hippolytushoef and was buried at Zandburen Cemetery. In 1949 he was reburied at Lassen Cemetery, Susanville, California USA.

On 4 December 1943, the Halifax took off at 00:01 from Graveley airfield in England. A total of 19 bombers from 35 Squadron took off. That night, 527 aircraft flew east towards Germany to bomb the city of Leipzig. Of these, 23 did not return. The Halifax was already set on fire on the outward journey at 01:49 by the night fighter of Leutnant Heinz Rolland. The aircraft still had all its bombs on board and tried to release them. This was only partially successful. When a wing broke off, the Halifax crashed. Four of the seven crew members died immediately in the crash. Three of them, Bonet, Cheal and Smith managed to land safely with their parachutes. During the day, they were arrested at various locations and taken prisoner of war.

On 17 January 1945, both Beaufighters took off from the English airfield North Coates at around 12:35. A total of 32 Beaufighters and 23 Spitfires participated in this mission. The target was a convoy that was lying in front of the port of Den Helder. After the attack, the squadron flew back over the Noordkop in a wide curve. Six aircraft flew in the direction of the water tower at Wieringerwaard. However, the two in front collided with each other just as the tower was passed and crashed. The four who remained behind thought that the two had been hit by guns from the ground. They then opened fire and the water tower suffered heavy damage. The damage has been repaired, but is still visible. The tragic thing is that there were no anti-aircraft guns at this location. However, all four crew members of the two Beaufighters were killed and are buried in the cemetery of Wieringerwaard.
