On 17 January 1945, both Beaufighters took off from the English airfield North Coates at around 12:35. A total of 32 Beaufighters and 23 Spitfires participated in this mission. The target was a convoy that was lying in front of the port of Den Helder. After the attack, the squadron flew back over the Noordkop in a wide curve. Six aircraft flew in the direction of the water tower at Wieringerwaard. However, the two in front collided with each other just as the tower was passed and crashed. The four who remained behind thought that the two had been hit by guns from the ground. They then opened fire and the water tower suffered heavy damage. The damage has been repaired, but is still visible. The tragic thing is that there were no anti-aircraft guns at this location. However, all four crew members of the two Beaufighters were killed and are buried in the cemetery of Wieringerwaard.

From Warboys airfield, ND357 departed on 14 January 1944 at 16:45 towards Braunschweig, Germany. After the bombing, the aircraft was shot down on the return flight by the Messerschmitt Bf 110G of Oberleutnant Dietrich Schmidt, who was operating from Leeuwarden. From the east, the burning bomber flew low over Kolhorn, between the church and the then primary school. The Lancaster crashed at 20:35 in the ditch, almost against the dike. The bomber had a very experienced crew on board. Five crew members had one or more awards and six had completed more than thirty missions. Mansfield and Alexander even more than fifty missions. The entire crew was killed and lies at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery near Bergen op Zoom. Five are buried together in one grave.
