Bridge closed again On the website of the province of South Holland We are carrying out maintenance on the Kandelaar Bridge from Monday, June 16, to Monday, September 1, 2025. The bridge will be closed during this period. Cyclists and pedestrians can use a ferry to cross the Schie River during this period. There will be closures for shipping and boaters.

The Tram Bridge over the Vlaardingervaart canal near Schipluiden is a bicycle bridge. Steam trams of the Westland Steam Tramway Company (WSM) used to run here, transporting vegetables from the Westland region to Delft. Between 1912 and 1932, passengers were also transported. After the war, diesel locomotives were used. The WSM tram line was closed in 1968. The bridge has been used as a bicycle bridge since 1974 and is an important link in the cycle routes of Midden-Delfland. The Tram Bridge has been a national monument since 2001. Very nice to sit on a bench at the harbour and look at the beautiful ships and historic buildings.

The Kandelaarbrug is an elegant steel drawbridge over the Delftse Schie, especially for cyclists and walkers. With its long approach and slight bend, it offers a smooth connection between Rotterdam and Delft, while you can enjoy the view over the water and the surrounding polders along the way.

Great little place - we were lucky enough to be able to see Maasluis during a town festival. I thought it was really worth seeing how the canals were included in the festival!
