The Maastunnel is the oldest submerged tunnel in the Netherlands. It connects the banks of the Nieuwe Maas in Rotterdam. The tunnel consists of four tubes: two for cars, one for cyclists and one for pedestrians. Construction started in 1937 and was completed in 1942.

Wonderful to overtake a few boats so close to the port of Rotterdam.

For me, it was a unique experience to “cross under” the river by bike under the Maas in a tunnel. The impressive entrance to the tunnel, the old wooden structures, the smell - an experience that you should simply take part in - - and surprisingly, the whole thing is free

I did this route on a Sunday afternoon in nice weather. Enjoy a drink with friends afterwards in the beautiful Veerhaven district of Rotterdam. Then take the Waterbus from Erasmus Bridge station to Merwedekade-Dordrecht. That is 1 hour of sailing. Wonderfully relaxing. Lots to see. Beautiful evening photos! And in 5 minutes I was back home in Dordrecht.

The market hall is 120 m long, 70 m wide, and 40 m high and truly impossible to miss. Yet the building blends perfectly into the surrounding buildings and appears very transparent thanks to its enormous glass facades. Even from the outside, you get a glimpse of the building's unique interior and the colorful artwork that spans the entire market hall. The artists Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam called their work, which adorns the arched ceiling of the market hall, "Horn of Abundance." And when you stand beneath it and see the oversized fruits, fish, and vegetables in all colors raining down on you, you can't imagine any other name for it. But you can not only see your fill in the market hall, you can also eat your fill. The market hall is open daily and offers all kinds of special foods: vegetables, fresh fish, organic meat, and nuts from all over the world. Plus, typical Dutch items like stroopwafels and, of course, cheese. However, the selection of snacks and culinary delicacies of all kinds now outweighs the selection of fresh produce. Classic dishes such as fries, kibbeling, or herring with onions are offered alongside Japanese sushi and oriental tapas. For dessert, there are brightly colored sweet donuts, delicious coconut macaroons, or even the best ice cream in all of Rotterdam. The Willems Bridge is one of Rotterdam's three large bridges that cross the Nieuwe Maas. It is 365 meters long and is a cable-stayed bridge standing on two large pylons. At night, the red color comes into its own even more thanks to the lighting.

Certainly one of the top highlights of the city.

It had been a while since I cycled there, but that route is a lot of fun and if you cycle along the harbors of Rotterdam, you get bored and there is always something to see and experience. I myself have cycled this route regularly and it is a Beautiful route
