The Peene River and its tributaries, peat bogs, valley bogs, streams, and ponds form a dense network of wetlands that, despite land reclamation, remain of great importance for flora and fauna. Here, you can observe, for example, otters and beavers. Lake Kummerow, Lake Malchin, and Lake Teterow and their surroundings are particularly important for migratory and resting waterfowl, as well as many breeding birds, including white-tailed eagles, lesser spotted eagles, and ospreys.

Ulrichshusen Castle is actually a manor house. It is beautifully situated on the Ulrichshusen Lake. The castle is used as an upscale hotel. But there is not just the castle with the small castle garden directly adjacent. Rather, it is an entire ensemble on the Ulrichshusen estate. Here you will find a good café and restaurant, among other things. The other outbuildings are used for various public events such as the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival.
