9월 6, 2024, Borgo Rotondo di Varese Ligure
The historic center of Varese Ligure is truly surprising in its urban structure, to the point of deserving the nickname Borgo Rotondo. The medieval building plan, which is due to the Fieschi, had a defensive purpose. In the center is the castle, with its high and sturdy walls. Around it, the houses are arranged in rows following the round curvature of the square, with porticos on the ground floor that allowed access to the shops and warehouses (some of which have now been transformed into public places). Also very interesting are the recently restored eighteenth-nineteenth century buildings with polychrome facades, which recall the pictorial decorations of the past. Furthermore, Varese Ligure is at the center of the Val di Vara biodistrict.

9월 6, 2024, Casareggio
Small hamlet among mountain pastures nestled between vast forests that cover the slopes of the surrounding mountains down to the valley floor. The entire area has very few inhabited centers, limited to small hamlets with a few houses.

7월 6, 2024, Passo Cento Croci
The descent from the pass towards Varese Ligure is brand new and tarred - it works! The other side of the pass is not quite as scenic and the asphalt looks a bit like cobblestones.

4월 19, 2024, Panorama Della Val Stora
In the past, Val Stora remained outside the most popular communication routes and this has allowed the valley to present only small hamlets immersed in the greenery of the woods which entirely cover the slopes of the mountains surrounding the valley.

4월 19, 2024, Porciorasco
Porciorasco, abandoned for decades, is currently being recovered. His is a fascinating story and still full of mysteries today which takes us back to the struggle of the Corsican people for independence. That of the imposing palace that belonged to the De Paoli family for centuries is a singular story: not a simple farm in the middle of a large valley, isolated but in a strategic position with respect to the passage towards the Po Valley, but a hotbed of multiple activities that have fed many families from the Alta Val di Vara area. In the middle, a little-known aspect worthy of further study, is the relationship that has remained constant over time with Corsica and the dream of the independence of the motherland. In more recent times, Porciorasco represented the base of the partisan resistance and the place where Angela Gotelli, a great post-war political personality, used to return often, and where the memory still permeates the buildings that have stubbornly withstood abandonment.

4월 19, 2024, Botasi Village
In Botasi it is possible to visit (ask the Pro Loco Valgraveglia for confirmation for timetables) the small church dedicated to San Giovanni Battista, patron saint of the hamlet celebrated on 24 June. Adjacent to the structure there is an ancient wash house used in ancient times by the inhabitants of the town as a source of drinking water and for washing clothes. The wash house is fed by fresh water coming from the springs located on the slopes of Mount Zatta which overlooks the town. Evocative alleys with stone vaults cross the houses of the town.

4월 9, 2024, Clock Tower of San Pietro Vara
The foundation of the town dates back to around the 14th century. In 1748 a conference was held there to discuss the armistice between the Austrians and the Franco-Spanish at the end of the War of the Austrian Succession. Between the 17th and 18th centuries, local religious brotherhoods guaranteed the influx of artistic works today preserved in the town's church and oratory.

4월 5, 2024, Parish Church of Missano
It is located on a hill at approximately 322 m above sea level. and the territory of the hamlet is made up of the steep terraces distributed along the provincial road 523 of Colle di Centocroci, which connects the Genoese valley of the Petronio stream with the middle Val di Vara in the province of La Spezia. A first mention of the church of the village of Missano can be found in the papal bull Officii nostri of Alexander III of 16 March 1162, where it is indicated as a possession of the Benedictine abbey of San Fruttuoso di Capodimonte (Camogli). Another document that commemorates the town is an act of territorial cession from 1189 by the Genoese consuls. The construction of what later, variously modified and enlarged, would become the local parish church also dates back to the 12th century. In the 17th century, the flourishing artisanal activity of the «corbari of that place inhabiting the church of Missano» is remembered: «The genesis of this activity, characteristic of the church of Missano and of the nearby Villa del Connio, was probably linked to the cultivation of the vine, the whose collection required the use of light, capacious and shoulder-carrying containers, of which the "corba" represents the most suitable model". «The corbari of Missano are baskets made with chestnut shoots, particularly flexible and resistant, therefore suitable for being woven and holding a heavy load. Today they are almost a museum object and it is surprising to think that there were different sizes: children, women, men up to 50 kilos in weight"

I arrived at Passo Cento Croci from Passo della Cappelletta (coming from Borgo Val Di Taro), on a paved road, but cyclist-proof (zero cars encountered), which winds at high altitude between pastures and conifers, with an enchanting scenery

Once you get to Cento Croci it would be a shame not to get to the Cappelletta and admire the splendid bucolic landscapes that can be admired even in autumn. Wind turbines are awful but majestic.
