The Rifugio Gian Federico Benevolo is a historic mountain refuge located at 2,287 meters, in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park. An ideal starting point for hikes and climbs, it offers a welcoming atmosphere and spectacular views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers.

The refuge can be reached by mountain bike, even by those less experienced, with a splendid view.

From Refigio Benovolo a very challenging and steep (i would say dangerous when you don't have enough experience, right gear - at least poles, and enough strength and in good condition) climb to the Colle Rosset. The path consists of loose gravel, stones and sand and should not be taken lightly (T4). But once on the col the view is amazing and beautiful.

Along the shore

After leaving your car in the parking lot at the end of the paved road, you quickly reach the small village of Thumel. The hamlet, composed of a few huts—some now abandoned—still retains the authentic charm of Alpine architecture. Thumel is a precious testimony to the mountain pastures of the past: during the summer, the mondzicou (cattle breeders, in the local dialect) would ascend here with their herds to reach the higher pastures of the Rhêmes Valley.
