The “Osservatorio del Re” is located in via Medaglie d’Oro, on Presa XV, next to a rural house. It can be reached from the road via a small path that leads to a clearing where there is a Roman column, placed in 1932 by the fascist regime. At the side of the clearing the path leads to a small tower with a commemorative plaque, equipped with a bunker that is accessed by a few steps to two observation rooms equipped with narrow slits from which it is possible to see (on a clear day) the valley up to the Piave river which was the scene of war. King Vittorio Emanuele III remained in Crocetta del Montello from 27 to 29 October 1918 to witness from this position the “Battle of Vittorio Veneto” which led to the surrender of the Austro-Hungarian army. On Montello and on the Piave line 90,000 Italian soldiers sacrificed their lives for the values of freedom and the Homeland.

The modest Montello hill, near Nervesa della Battaglia in the province of Treviso, is crossed perpendicularly by many roads, 21 to be precise, called prese. Some of these are connected to each other: "La Militare" connects via Eligio Porcu (an Italian soldier who died during the First World War) to via degli Alpini.

1917 was a terrible year for Italy, but above all for the Treviso region.
