The climb to Monte Summano is always beautiful and interesting and being exposed to the south it can be done practically all year round. From the top there are trails that vary in difficulty and beauty but are always fun and exciting.

From the top, at 1354 m above sea level, you can enjoy a unique panorama of the Vicenza Valley and the nearby Val d'Astico, with the mountains of the Asiago Plateau on the right and in the distance, the Euganean Hills of Padua in front of you.

10월 28, 2023, Monte Paù (o Cima del Gallo)
The summit of Monte Paù (or Cima del Gallo) is reached via an exposed, but wide and safe ledge (former military mule track), then climbing between the rocks and following a short trail in the woods. The rocky promontory hosts a small 'capital' with a Madonna: it is very exposed to the valley, without protection, offering a spectacular view of the plain, of Monte Summano in the foreground, of the lower Val d'Astico, of Cengio and of the Costo road. Below the summit, Italian artefacts from the Great War: a tunnel, rock shelters, artillery positions... the ledge itself is a military mule track. This southern edge of the Plateau - although it was never directly involved in the conflict, which stopped at the Lèmerle and Zovetto mountains - had been fortified as a possible line of maximum resistance, to defend the plain.

The summit of Monte Cengio, the scene of bloody fighting during World War I, has been declared a "Sacred Zone to the Fatherland." It can be considered the arrival and highest point of the beautiful and daring mule track (also known as the "Granatiera"), dug by the Italian army over the sheer plain below. It offers a spectacular panoramic view of the Astico Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges. https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Cengio

Mount Lèmerle, along with nearby Mount Zovetto and the Magnaboschi Valley that separates them, held great historical significance during the First World War, as the scene of two distinct and bloody battles. In the first battle, in June 1916, the Italian army managed to hold off the advancing Austro-Hungarian army for 10 days, which, with the Strafexpedition, was attempting to break through and invade the nearby Veneto plain. The second battle, the Battle of the Solstice, took place in June 1918: this time it was the British troops, who arrived in the spring to garrison and fortify the area in support of their Italian allies, who countered the last desperate attack of the imperial forces. Today, the mountain's summit is covered in a dense and beautiful forest of tall spruce trees, but during the Great War, Italian engineers had cleared the view to control the entire Asiago basin. On the slopes of the mountain, in 2016, the remains of an unknown Italian soldier and an Austro-Hungarian soldier who fell nearby were accidentally discovered. https://www.storiaememoriadibologna.it/monte-lemerle-monte-zovetto-monte-magnaboschi-3580-luogo

Mount Summano is a mountain of great historical, natural, and scenic interest. It is the last offshoot of the Monte Novegno chain overlooking the plain: from the summit, you can enjoy a beautiful 360° panorama of the Po Valley on one side and the Astico Valley and the Venetian Prealps on the other. It has never been a volcano, despite some misconceptions based on its conical shape (which, however, is only apparent from the southern perspective, i.e., from the plain). The toponym perhaps derives from the god Summanus, the god of thunder and nocturnal atmospheric phenomena (as opposed to Jupiter, god of daytime thunder). It has always been a sacred place and a destination for pilgrimages: from ancient pagan cults in the Etruscan and Roman eras (as evidenced by archaeological finds) to its crystallization with the Sanctuary of the Gerolimini Friars, beneath the summit. During World War I, it was militarized due to its remote yet strategic location, serving as a second line of defense in the event of an enemy breakthrough. Traces of two anti-aircraft emplacements remain on the summit; cave shelters are present in various secluded spots; the eastern (Rancina) and western (Creste all the way to Brazome) ridges are dotted with observation posts and artillery emplacements. It boasts a unique and rare floral biodiversity, undoubtedly due to its location and shape; according to belief, also due to the fact that this hill has been a pilgrimage site since ancient times; traditionally, every traveler brought flowers from their homeland as a gift to the mountain. At the summit, an imposing 16-meter concrete cross stands with a steel Christ in a somewhat unusual pose, with his hand raised: it represents the moment of resurrection, but it also seems to be a greeting and a wish for the hiker who has made it this far! https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Summano

1월 17, 2023, Croce di Rozzo Còvole
A very panoramic promontory overlooking the Tretti mountains, overlooking the Alba district: to the left, Mount Summano with its sharp, jagged ridges; in front, the Vicenza plain and hills; to the right, the Novegno massif, with the rounded Monte Giove in the foreground. On some maps (e.g., OpenStreetMap), it is referred to as the 'Croce del Brazòme': in reality, Cima Brazome, not always marked, consists of two peaks further west, overlooking the Astico Valley; while behind this cross, above the trail, lies Monte Rozzo Covole. Another curious and inappropriate name given to the Rozzo Covolo pass is 'Passo del Gatto' (Cat's Pass): many years ago, when members of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) came to clear the trail, they often spotted a wild cat, and for this reason they began to affectionately refer to it as 'Passo del Gatto' (Cat's Pass)!
