It also serves as a local recreation area with excellent restaurants. There are many recreational opportunities here, such as sailing, surfing, or hiking or cycling around the beautiful Vechte Lake. Pedal boats and rowboats are available for rent at a boat rental shop, allowing you to explore Nordhorn's city center, for example. Tour boats also offer tours through Nordhorn's city center along the Vechte River, which branches off here.

The newly redesigned Reiterbrücke (Rider's Bridge) has been fitted with a durable, non-slip plastic decking. The old railing has been replaced with a significantly higher one. The bridge, now with a much wider roadway, allows for easy passage even when encountering oncoming traffic on the busy pedestrian and bicycle path. A ramp has been constructed in close proximity to the Reiterbrücke. From here, a gently sloping path provides barrier-free and convenient access to the lower-lying pedestrian and bicycle path along the Vechtesee (Lake Vechte). The perfectly completed Reiterbrücke offers a beautiful view of the Vechtesee and is now another highlight in the water city of Nordhorn.
