The gatehouse dates from 1560 and features a stone rebate for the former portcullis and stone hinges on the outer pointed arch portal. The first floor formerly housed the prison. On May 27, 1906, an observation tower was inaugurated on the summit in honor of Duchess Alexandrine (1820–1904), wife of Duke Ernst II of Coburg.[3][4] The Alexandrine Tower, designed by Max Böhme, fell into disrepair over the following decades due to inadequate maintenance and was demolished in March 1936 due to its dilapidated condition. On July 18, 1936, the Thüringerwald-Verein Coburg e.V. inaugurated the Alexandrine Hut on the same site, built partly using stones from the former tower. The Alexandrinenhütte is a hut belonging to the Thüringerwald-Verein Coburg e. V. (Thuringian Forest Association Coburg). It is located on the Sennigshöhe (523 m above sea level), one of the highest points in the Coburg district, near the Mirsdorf district of the Meeder municipality in Upper Franconia (Bavaria). For centuries, Callenberg Castle has been owned and used by the ducal family of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. For the ducal family, it remains a link between the past and the present. The castle is open from April to October: Thursday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; in November and December: Thursday to Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is €8.

The Herzogsbrunnen (Duke's Fountain) is a spring near Rödental-Oberwohlsbach and is located near the Hohe Schwenge peak and the quarry nature reserve near Taimbach. The following information can be found on the Rödental town website: "The area around Lauterburg Castle was once a favorite hunting ground of the Dukes of Coburg. It was a separate forestry district (see Taimbach Forester's House) and had its own forester. For all those involved in a hunt, the spring was a popular meeting place and resting place. So, it was only natural to name it "Herzogsbrunnen" (Duke's Fountain) when, in 1907, nature and hiking enthusiasts had it dug and the fountain created. The plaque on the Herzogsbrunnen bears the following inscription: "What you sought when you crossed the threshold of your house, here you will find it: the pure air, a drink from the cool spring – and deep rest in the quiet peace of the forest."

The ruins of Lauterburg Castle, located along a nature trail, are located on the edge of the Oberwohlsbach district of Rödental. Since 1999, the ruins have been open to the public again and are a popular destination for young and old. Since then, the Rödental Local History Society has maintained the castle complex with particular dedication. The ruins have always been one of the most popular destinations in the Coburg region, offering magnificent views of the surrounding countryside.
