12월 25, 2025, Querkelstein Rock Formation
The entire route along the Querkelsteig trail is very easy and interesting for everyone to walk.

Following the trail, actually a hiking trail, you continue towards Ottowind. Starting at the Alexandrinenhütte, the trail is relatively wide and only becomes a single trail in the lower third. The section through the pine forest is particularly enjoyable, with its easy root stairs, although there are very few of them. Overall, the trail is easy to ride, making it a clearly better alternative for mountain bikers.

9월 18, 2025, Alexandrinenhütte on Sennigshöhe
On May 27, 1906, an observation tower was inaugurated on the summit in honor of Duchess Alexandrine (1820–1904), wife of Duke Ernst II of Coburg.[3][4] The Alexandrine Tower, designed by Max Böhme, fell into disrepair over the following decades due to inadequate maintenance and was demolished in March 1936 due to its dilapidated condition. On July 18, 1936, the Thüringerwald-Verein Coburg e.V. inaugurated the Alexandrine Hut on the same site, built partly using stones from the former tower. For over 80 years, the association has operated the hut on a voluntary basis and continuously modernizes it. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandrinenh%C3%BCtte

The Alexandrinenhütte is a hut belonging to the Thüringerwald-Verein Coburg e. V. (Thuringian Forest Association Coburg). It is located on the Sennigshöhe (523 m above sea level), one of the highest points in the Coburg district, near the Mirsdorf district of the Meeder municipality in Upper Franconia (Bavaria). It serves as a popular hiking rest stop and, due to its elevation, is considered the highest beer garden in the Coburg region. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandrinenh%C3%BCtte

The trail is beautiful in every season. It is partially lined with chestnut trees and offers repeated views of Coburg and, at one point, even the Grosser Gleichberg. This section is no surprise, as it's part of the panoramic trail around Ahorn. It's a perfect alternative for those coming from Schorkendorf toward Hohenstein, where you can enjoy nature. A hiking parking lot is located on the B 303, making it a good starting point for exploring.

9월 7, 2025, Schloss Hohenstein
During the Third Reich, the castle was initially used by the Reichspost (Reich Postal Service) as a postal convalescent home from 1941 onward. After the Second World War, the German Federal Postal Service leased it to Caritas, which operated a retirement home. In 1976, the Postal Service sold the property to Munich entrepreneur Oskar Hacker, who had the castle restored between 1987 and 1993 to use it as a hotel and restaurant. Following Oskar Hacker's death in 2016, the castle has been owned by the non-profit Oskar Hacker Foundation, which has its headquarters in the castle. The foundation operates the Oskar Hacker Art Forum, which, among other things, has erected the permanent exhibition "Glaskunst im Schlosspark" by Borowski and a White Cube by photographer Mike Meyer in the park since 2024. The hotel and upscale restaurants are leased. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Hohenstein_(Oberfranken)

9월 7, 2025, Schloss Hohenstein
Today's Hohenstein Castle was first documented in 1306 as "Castum Hohenstein in dem Grabfelde," or "castle." Countess Jutta von Henneberg was listed as its owner. Over the next 150 years, the hilltop castle changed hands several times until Duke William of Saxony, who granted the castle "zu dem Hohen Steyn" as a fief to the brothers Hans and Thomas von Lichtenstein. In 1466, the Bamberg vassals Kunz von Aufseß and Kunz von Streitberg, whose ancestral castles were located in Franconian Switzerland, devastated the castle. Both knights, along with their brother Kunz Ochs, who was also involved, were soon sentenced by the Coburg City Court to compensate for the damage caused and to pay 4,000 guilders to the Coburg rulers for breach of the peace. 9월 7, 2025, Querkelstein Rock Formation
The rock formation owes its name to a legend. The Querkel stones in the Hohenstein Forest still remind us of the Querkels today. These little people rarely came to the villages. Only when the ground was frozen solid and they couldn't dig for ore did they come and help the farmers with threshing. In return, they received a few small pieces of bread as gifts. The gold and silver they dug in large quantities from the mountains were carefully hidden from the farmers' view in their caves. Once, when a farmer from Stöppach, a village near Hohenstein, beat the dwarves because they had cut off a small portion of his bread and meat during his absence, they never came to the villages again. From that day on, the dwarf people disappeared forever from human sight, and the Querkel caves stood empty. The Old Sheep Farm Ahorn is located amidst the diverse cultural landscape of the Coburg region. It houses the Coburg Region's Equipment Museum with its 600 square meters of exhibition space. A large barn, shepherd's house, bakehouse, and pigpen are grouped around the 300-year-old sheepfold, which serves as the central exhibition building. The grounds are the starting point for numerous hiking trails. The "Schäferstuben" restaurant invites you to visit. Source: https://schaeferei-ahorn.de/

9월 5, 2025, Herzogsbrunnen
The Herzogsbrunnen (Duke's Fountain) is a spring near Rödental-Oberwohlsbach and is located near the Hohe Schwenge peak and the quarry nature reserve near Taimbach. The following information can be found on the Rödental town website: "The area around Lauterburg Castle was once a favorite hunting ground of the Dukes of Coburg. It was a separate forestry district (see Taimbach Forester's House) and had its own forester. For all those involved in a hunt, the spring was a popular meeting place and resting place. So, it was only natural to name it "Herzogsbrunnen" (Duke's Fountain) when, in 1907, nature and hiking enthusiasts had it dug and the fountain created. The plaque on the Herzogsbrunnen bears the following inscription: "What you sought when you crossed the threshold of your house, here you will find it: the pure air, a drink from the cool spring – and deep rest in the quiet peace of the forest."
