Great view from the observation tower over the lake. Here you can observe great waterfowl.

Absolutely worth seeing facility with castle and associated landscape park. Admission is currently €15 and contributes to the maintenance of the facility. The castle park was laid out by the "green" Baron Süsskind, who did almost all the planting here himself.

Here you can see the remains of a Roman arena and buildings of a former fort, the ramparts and the battlefield are clearly visible. The information about the "Arena" and the castle can be read on well-made display boards. A little further there are still some stone walls, very worth seeing.

The LBV environmental station Altmühlsee brings nature conservation and tourism into harmony. The LBV has been active at Altmühlsee for over 30 years and looks after the Vogelinsel nature reserve there.

Visiting the gardens is only possible for 15 euros per person, otherwise only view through the fence. ☹️

It is one of the most important geological natural wonders of Bavaria. Its summit made of Malm limestone bears witness to the formerly much larger area of the Franconian Alb plateau, hence the name Zeugenberg. The Hesselberg towers over its surrounding area by more than 200 meters. ORIGIN The Hesselberg owes its origin to its special location in the area of a shallow tectonic basin and the phenomenon of "relief reversal". While the rocks outside the hollow were removed over the course of millions of years, those inside the hollow remained protected longer. The Hesselberg includes the entire layered spatula from the Lias to the Malm. The sedimentary rocks were formed in the Jurassic Sea.
