In the post-war period until 1959, coal was mined here for the worsted spinning mill in Kaiserslautern. Today, however, only two information boards still indicate this fact. "The final phase of coal mining in Steinbach occurred in the post-war period. At that time, there was a coal shortage in Germany again. In 1948, a cooperative of unemployed miners began [...] to work the main tunnel located east of Steinbach. [...] In 1953, the Maria mine, with a workforce of 62, produced 600-700 tons of coal per month. The Maria mine was the last coal mine in Rhineland-Palatinate to be closed on May 30, 1959, thus bringing to an end the 200-year tradition of coal mining in Steinbach." An idyllic section of the valley with a babbling brook, mossy banks, and shady forest – here, the Palatinate region reveals its tranquil side. Pure nature, accompanied by the sound of the water. Tip: Perfect for a short break by the stream – pleasantly cool and wonderfully calming, especially on hot days.

🌄 Landscape at the Nature Friends' House (Haselrech) The Nature Friends' House is located at an elevation of approximately 396 meters and offers magnificent views of the Sickinger Höhe and Landstuhler Bruch. Surrounded by meadows, mixed forest, Celtic graves, and the ancient Mühleiche tree, it's an ideal place for a nature-based rest and regional exploration. Tip: Enjoy the view from the terrace and combine your highlight with a walk to the viewing platform and the information boards about the "Pfälzer Westrich" (Palatinate Westrich). It's particularly atmospheric in the soft afternoon light.

🎨 Art by the Lake No. 2 – "Home" An imposing sandstone frame (2.5 x 2 m) – prominently placed along the lakeside path overlooking Lake Ohmbach. It invites you to consciously perceive the beauty of your homeland as if through a window. Tip: Position yourself so that the lake shines through the stone frame – ideal for photography or capturing an intimate moment. The light is particularly magical in the morning and evening.

🎨 Art by the Lake No. 3 – "Unwucht" An expressive sandstone sculpture (2.30 m) made of local Palatinate sandstone – symbolizing the delicate balance of life. Located directly on the lakeside path, it blends harmoniously between the forest and the water, inviting you to take a quiet artistic break. Tip: Start from the south shore and reach "Unwucht" halfway through the loop – ideal for an elegant photo stop or a meditative moment with a view of the lake.
