Swimming and a nice snack

Okay, I was on the road from Dalwitz to the twin windmills at 5.30 in the early morning when I saw the horses from afar 🌝

The Dalwitz Estate is located in Mecklenburg, about an hour from Rostock. It is owned by Dr. Heinrich von Basswitz and his wife, Countess Lucy von Basswitz. Here, you can spend a wonderful, relaxing vacation.

Dalwitz was a manor village. Since 1349, the land around Dalwitz has been owned by the Counts of Bassewitz. Starting in 1992, Count Heinrich Bassewitz expanded the Dalwitz estate into an organic farm. The farm received the Agricultural Culture Prize in 1999 and the Thünen Medal in 2001. The manor house, built in the Swedish country house style in 1726, was remodeled and expanded in the Tudor style in 1855. After 1992, vacation apartments were built on the estate, as well as a riding stable with a riding facility and a restaurant. This offers numerous options for vacationers. The farm shop and the excellent restaurant "La Remise" offer supplies, as does the nearby small shop "Ihre Kette."

The concentration of different species of trees affected by mistletoe is striking. Mistletoe is one of the epiphytic parasites and is a semi-parasite. They use the trees as a host for water and nutrients. The epiphytic plants destroy the cell walls of the trees and drive a wedge into the host tissue. Nature has come up with a special trick to spread mistletoe: its white fruits are extremely sticky. “Many birds like to nibble on the berries. Some of the fruits stick to their beaks. If the birds sharpen their beaks on a branch or leave their droppings there, the mistletoe seeds stick to the bark of the future host tree.

From Easter to the end of September, the MS Regulus takes you on its round trips across Lake Teterow. The barge can carry 30 people. If you are traveling with a group or your family, it is best to call the ferryman beforehand.
