A must-see in Kurzen Trechow is the old manor house. Here, too, we encounter traces of the Cistercians. The description of the manor house's history states that the wedge pockets in the carved boulders bear witness to the building technique that the Cistercians introduced to the region.

What hikers encounter off the trail here are the modern heirs of the historic windmills, because centuries ago our ancestors were clever enough to harness the power of the elements for their own purposes. They used the wind captured in the blades to drive the heavy millstones, so that grain could be ground into flour, for example. While in the past, care was taken with the architecture of each individual mill, this modern and unaesthetic variant - which is used to generate electricity - has simply been placed in the landscape en masse. These wind farms, which are designed for efficiency, are not without controversy, because on the one hand, no consideration is given to the landscape when they are built, and above all, the slender blades become a death trap for birds.

The Bernitter Church is a field stone building with windows, portals and vaults made of brick. It was built in the 13th century. The choir is older than the nave and dates from around 1240, while the nave was added around 40 years later. The tower of the church dates from the 15th century. The Bernitter Church is one of the few churches in Mecklenburg from the 13th century that the Reformation apparently left behind without a trace. The interior of the church is well preserved. From the Middle Ages there are vault paintings in the nave and a large baptismal font and a sacrament cabinet in the north wall in the choir. There are medieval paintings in the nave. They were only rediscovered in 1859 and faithfully restored. The paintings in the nave of the church are among the oldest scenic representations in Northern Germany. Scenes of the Passion of Christ and the Last Judgment are depicted on the main surfaces of the vaulted caps. The creation of the vault paintings is dated for the period around 1280-1350. The tower has an eight-sided helmet and four dazzling gables. A double-beamed staircase, which is almost 13 meters long, leads to the bell chamber. There are three bells in the bell chamber. The two large Bernitter church bells are still preserved from the 14th century. On one of them there is the well-known bell saying O rex glorie christe veni cum pace and incised marks of the Blessed Mother and St. Catherine.
